(old text deleted, will update this 1st post)
I've decided to start round 2 with the old settings but on another machine.
- still the problem with D3D not working properly (either HOM or colored corrupted stipes in the picture)
other info:
- finding secret areas gives you one force power star (for leveling)
- I put all my available stars for force speed and jump, then pull, and then healing
- later eventually force destruction or force deadly sight
- temporary WIP-bloopers video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zapAdcIOJEg

Game settings would be:
- Easy skill
- 640x480 8bit (SW:3D) RenderDroid 1 (Software Rendering)
- recording with old and working version of fraps: 2.5.4
- useful force powers bound directly to keys

Times so far in minutes, old times in brackets:

Kyle Katarn:
Level 01:
1:08 (old: 1:19) saved: 11s
+ faster running
+ not collecting stuff
- bumping into many stupid NPCs
- only missed 1 short elevator jump

Level 02:
1:26 (old: 2:20) saved: 54s
+ impressive tripmine forcejump thx to Zhouy
+ elevator force jump
+ jumping earlier on dropship and activating

Level 03:
1:38 (old: 2:08) saved: 30s
+ elev. jump
+ optimized tube jump b4 control room
- but i got hit by rail detonator rockets, lost ~2s

Level 04:
2:33 (old: 2:49) saved: 16s
+ no air getting - between destroying cooling panels
+ ending level faster by jumping on the platform earlier than intended and jumping again

Mara Jade:
Level 05:
3:12 (old: 4:10) saved: 58s
+ dont destroy machine walk directly into palace
+ dont waste time to collect items
+ in jailroom - jump directly above into the alcove

Level 06:
1:36 (old: 2:00) saved: 24s
+ faster jump down routes
+ grab key and escape room before door closes
+ kill C3PO lamer which is blocking
+ avoid stormtrooper contact
+ do stylish bowcaster kills
+ shoot enemies in bar so they shoot at you and push you outside
+ dont go in trap room..

Level 07:
1:26 (old: 1:46) saved: 20s
+ force jump instead of normal
+ minor optimizing

Level 08:
2:06 (old: 3:04) saved: 58s
+ use force speed
+ going into secret and grab rail detonator
+ open big hangar door and do a fucking impressive rocket jump into the final zone (very hard!)

Level 09:
2:33 (old: 2:59) saved: 26s
+ using force speed
+ detroy grate under lift faster
+ pushed R2D2 lamer to move faster
+ force jumped lift
- got confused a bit in container room

---
saved time so far: almost 5 mins
---

Level 10: --
Level 11: --
Level 12: --
Level 13: --
Level 14: --

Thanks for your tips (elevator force jump, explosive force jump etc...)

I made a speedrun of this game a long time ago at something like 35 minutes, however it was at the time when I was a noob at speedrunning. At that time I found a few timesavers, but I only remember the one on the second map where you can blow yourself up to the bridge instead of getting that scoop and shoot the controls. Good luck with the last two maps, looking forward to see the run!

I dont have taken the scope for the E11 blaster rifle Smiley
Taken out the switch at the bottom of the lift with the blaster (very accurate)

I tried to blow up myself to the bridge but had no success Sad

I will upload all the videos soon (or may get used to Youtube... well Cheesy)

Do you still have your speedrun?

No I don't, otherwise I would've watched it and checked what timesavers I had there. Anyway, it's a little tricky to get high enough to reach the bridge, you need to jump with max force jump at the same time as you shoot the rocket gun (dunno what it's called) below you. I can record a video of how to do it tomorrow if you wish me to.

The rocket thingie is called "Rail Detonator" Smiley
I'll keep that force+rocket jump in mind, when doing round 2 of speedrunning.

BTW: I have started this speedrun this week, monday 10:00 CET Tongue

Since this game uses the original Quake engine, have you checked to see if any of the tricks from Quake actually work in the game? (bunny hopping, ramp jumping, etc etc)

I can't find any evidence that the Sith engine is a modified Quake engine.

More likely it's a modified version of the Jedi engine, used for the original Dark Forces (which was released before Quake).

Ok I watched the videos, some possible improvements:

Map1:
At 0:34 you can use force jump instead of taking elevator
Same at 0:42, you can also use force jump here

Map2:
At 0:50 once again you can use force jump instead of elevator
1:48, isn't it possible to start the flying "ship" or w/e it is earlier?
And the bridge part which I already explained to you.

Map3:
At 0:26, if you're VERY FAST, you can destroy the panel and get out of the room again before the door closes (with help of force speed and force jump). I tried it and it works, but as I said, you need to be fast.
At 1:01 you can force jump earlier
1:25 force jump instead of elevator

Map4:
1:20 You can probably skip wasting time at breathing air, the only thing that happens if you're underwater too long is that you loose life, and health doesn't matter as this is the last map with Kyle.

Map6:
1:36 isn't it only waste of time to enter this place? ;P You can exit the level after you seen Mar leaving the bar.

Map7:
1:23 maybe you can jump up to window instead of taking stairs up, but this is only a guess since I don't remember

Map11:
1:44 Force jump instead of elevator

Map12:
Use force powers at evil Mara while you fight her to take her down faster

Map14:
As soon as Kyle hits you with his blade when your lightsaber is off, the game is over. It can be done some seconds faster.

Also would like to add, I don't know which difficulty you have on, but couldn't much of the armor and stuff be skipped? And maybe you could use force speed more often, as often as you can to get faster. Also if you're remaking all levels, maybe you make one segment per map?

Also one more thing, how did you record the menu where you choose force powers? Fraps just didn't want to record it for me when I ran this game..

I dont know, maybe the Intel driver for graphics on my Netbook are better than the usual Forceware for nVIDIA GPUs, or Catalyst for ATi/AMD GPUs Tongue
Fraps (pretty old version) records the whole ingame menu (its Direct Draw anyways...)

I guess its the graphics card/driver on my Netbook which makes Fraps recognize that there is something DirectX accelerated going on, on the screen Cheesy

So long as the in-game resolution matches the menu resolution, and you don't switch between rendering modes fraps should have no problems recording.

For round 2 of MotS I've tried to record on other machines with no luck using Fraps 2.5
Is there any other reliable screen recording software available?
