After watching cortez's great speedrun of AoE 3 I felt a bit nostalgic and decided to speedrun the original campaign from the first game. Theres 12 levels in all so Im going to tackle it a level a segment. Perhaps each campaign could be considered a different run?

Hunting:  3:58 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDCEngSxXv0
Foraging: 4:10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=198u_o0Kd64
Discovery: 1:37 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQsBKbXa8O0

Current Total Time: 9:45

I think someone could beat these times if they follow my stratagies but were faster with the controls.

IMO it looks very good so far, too.
I can't remember if it's able to use hotkeys in AOE1, but if yes, that would really help and would save time.... Wink

I dont know about the game speed. I just remember that pressing + speeds up the game so I did that. Was that the answer you were looking for?

Discovery was the fun one. Just all about legging it across the map.

Also Im sure everyone owns a copy of this somewere. So if you have any tips or routes that work better let me know. I know my keyboard and mouse skills are uber fast but on this table its as good as its going to get baby.

Update to the time

Hunting: 3:58 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDCEngSxXv0
Foraging: 4:10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=198u_o0Kd64
Discovery: 1:37 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQsBKbXa8O0
Dawn Of A New Era: 5:29
Skirmish:1:07
Farming: 12:28

Current Total Time: 00:28:49

As you can see the Farming level is the big issue here. Need to find some sort of stratagie to it. Trouble is I reckon you could only just get under 10 mins with this level anyway. I think I will have to improve on my Dawn of A New Era and Foraging as well.

i have tried Farming by myself and i dont find any good route, which could help you to get the time under 10 min.

one suggestion at Discovery. send only one villager to gather food and discover with the other one. this could improve at least 2 sec.

Discovery is fun. Its one that could be practised more and more until the time literally can't be beaten. I'm going to hopefully better all my times. (I have to make up for Farming someway) If your interested I would be willling to work together and enter the run as a group project. Only if you want to that is.

I know for a fact there's a way to complete the level where you have to convert a Ballista (I believe it's "Crusade") within a couple of minutes.

It involved making sure the ballista took an 'upper' path to your base, then getting a fast conversion.

At normal game speeds I think I beat that level in two or three minutes thanks to that - but that's without a doubt in the realm of vein-popping random luck (hence why I remember it so much better than any other campaign tactic in this game).  It's one of those things that'd probably take two weeks of near-constant attempts to replicate - and it may even be beatable faster by getting the ballista to go even closer to your base on its own.

Other than that, I generally take RTSes pretty slowly, so I can't offer a whole lot of advice.  But I suspect that because the levels are not truly tied together, runs in this game (and Age of Empires 2, as well) would follow an individual-level table, not a whole-campaign run structure.
