Hey everyone,

I've been playing Shinobi a fair bit and I've knocked up a few quick times for pure speed; this game seems practically made for speedrunning. It's very enjoyable and I'd recommend it to everyone.

However I'm not sure what method everyone uses to record the runs and get them into a format viewable on PC. I'm pretty sure I have everything I need right here but I don't mind buying a little equipment.

Currently my runs are pretty unpolished and I estimate at least a week before I'll be able to do a complete run. Currently I'm doing individual level+boss segments as they appear in the stage select. I'm hoping for an entire run in under 30 minutes to start with. I'm yet to even unlock Super mode and haven't tried any runs on hard mode, but other than the bosses there should be no difference.

This run is pure speed BTW, so unless it's required (through either unlocking gates or akujiki running out of Yin) I won't be killing much. I still love the feel of the runs though, I hope if I get them done and uploaded everyone will enjoy them.

So can anyone point me to some step by step info for recording a demo from a console onto pc? Ta muchly

// edit

Ok I found the former posts regarding the Shinobi Speed Run project already in progess.. Mods can delete this post I guess, as it is no longer of relevance; the speed demo project isn't hosted here, apparently due to lack of interest Sad

Someone else was working on a Shinobi speed run...just a heads-up. I believe they were doing individual level times, though.

To answer your question, this topic links to a huge tutorial on capturing runs...just ignore the beginning part (The tutorial was written for a Metroid site, but beyond "selecting a Metroid game", the actual capturing part applies to any console game).

Also, both Radix and Nate have the necessary equipment for converting a run done on a VHS tape to something viewable on computer.

Hope that helps.

All the information you need is here:
http://radix.metroid2002.com/sda/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=other_games;action=display;num=1103578274

We have basically moved to another site where we have our own forums, tabels, and webspace for movies.
That site is here:

See you there!
