While uploading my video i took the time to register at the site.

As i said i would try the run again and this time following the rules.
So far ive completed Chapter 1 in just about 10 minutes. I found even more bugs and shorcuts so i hope this little preview wont get boring for ppl who have already seen the first attempt.

Download - http://massrefuge.com/Downloads/Movies/Blood_2_Chapter1.rar

Ive started the run with following settings.

Character : Ophelia
Difficulty   : Genocide

I was thinking of using a GUI enhancement in the following runs , this only makes the interface look better and weapon sounds more realistic. But just to be safe i wont , might be against the rules ?

Video

Size : 65,5 MB
Codec : Xvid  700/kbps
Audio : Lame 96/kb
Container :  AVI

I just watched the whole thing, and so far Chapter 1's play is much better than before, and I was in awe of the shortcut taken at the first part of the CAS Revenant (the airship), and going through the lasers in the Museum level with minimal damage.  I'm waiting to see how the rest of the levels will turn out.

GUI enhancements shouldn't really be used when speedrunning, so I would advise not using them in the run.

I finished the 2nd chapter in 8 minutes.

After i watched it i noticed that after the Level 6 ( the level with the boat)  in level 7(in the train)  i had less shield and HP than i had at the end of Level 6.

I wondered what happend and looked at the video frame by frame near the end and i couldnt find where something could have hit me , the last frame still indicated  that i had 103 HP 72 Shiled.

But then i noticed that in the last second both of the monsters infront of me shot the green acid fluid at me but they mustve hit me just one milisecond before the level was over , when my screen was already black. Thats the only way i can explain it to me.

Anyone else have any ideas ?

I wouldn't worry about that, because if the stat change could be seen in the split second with a program that can switch to a certain frame (like Virtualdub), then it shouldn't be a problem.  Heck, I'm sure the Fecal Matters level had SMG yet the previous ended with the knife.  That isn't a problem either, because weapons switch really fast anyways, and it wouldn't be much of a problem anyways.

So, I'm downloading the Chapter 2 part now.  Aquatiger, take note of some of the tricks in the run, despite it being done level per level.

EDIT:  Wow, I'm shocked.  Despite one pratfall at Meat Processing plant, the rest of the Chapter went really well.    I never thought that fence could be jumped through but you managed to do so.  Shame that the Shikari at the end was the reason for the stat problem.  Oh well.

It's quite odd that the time it takes to wait for the next chapter to start allows for you to reorganize the weapons and stuff.  I'm taking you're going to save space for the Minigun for when you actually find it, although it's possible to get one right before the final boss.

There won't be much of the game left routewise if you keep up the great work like that.  I'm willing to bet that Chapter 3 and 4 runs will be insane as Chapters 1 and 2 are right now.

EDIT 2:  Not sure, but I think there's a bit of interlacing in the movies so far, but those can be fixed by remaking the avis with the source avis having the deinterlacing filter on.

EDIT 3:  I notice you fire Die Bug Die on the Behemoth a couple of times without the loading animation.  I assume you took advantage of a bug that allows this.

Yes iam simply switching to another weapon and then back to skip the reload, i practically use that all the time ( with the sniper , shotgun ) you can use this bug with any weapon in the game.

The video is not interlaced because it was not recorded interlaced, the reason why you might get a blurry impression is due to the fact that the original video is recorded at 50 FPS. But the output video is 30 FPS so it tends to blur the frames into 30 instead of 50, maybe ill try to encode the nextone at 25 and see if this goes away.

Once again, really smooth playing, although it's too bad that Undead Gideon and Undead versions of the Chosen were skipped.  Somehow I also feel that the credits area is really hilarious, killing Caleb and the other chosen, then committing suicide by Voodoo doll XD

You really ought to contact Radix about the run and try to get it on SDA.  I'm sure many will really enjoy the run. Wink

Including me. That was really entertaining to watch. But it does seem like you're going out of your way for health a bit too much. In chapter 2 for instance, you do  a really cool jump from a zombie guy, but seemingly only to pick up some health.

I enjoyed the run immensly, regardless of that, so I would love to see it on SDA as well.

I must agree too that espcially in the last levels i tend to grab too much Shileds and stuff.
It was because i was worried i wouldnt have enough HP rushing through the levels and ending up in chapter 4 with only little health and no Shileds near by.

So it think the run can beaten easiely by anyone , for example stopping by to get the plasma was totally useless since i never used it only once by accident.

But anyway after sorting out the rest of the video i made a little tickjump video for blood 2 showing some of the tricks i found but which didnt end up saving time.

Download - http://massrefuge.com/Downloads/Movies/Blood2_tricks.wmv

I can assure you everything you see was achived only by bug exploiting , no cheats whatsoever were used.
Even the 0 HP bug Cheesy

Edit : Link fixed Smiley

Haha that video was awesome.  Goes to show that Monolith never really took the time to get rid of all the bugs.  Incredibly funny as well, with my favorite part having to be the trick in the level before the last level of Chapter 1.

Great job MassRefuge!  The run was very good, I like how you were actually able to land pretty much every shot you fire off.  Makes it seem more professional.

The Caleb run was done on the easiest mode?  Throughout the run I've noticed you were pretty much over 100 HP in health.  The next difficulty up would probably make it harder but would still be possible.  I played through Blood 2 in hard mode (by all means, I did it slowly!) and a few things I've noticed is not only do you take harder hits from enemies but your weapons are weaker, so speedrunning in that would definitely be slower.  Not sure about normal mode, though.

This seem to apply for most Monolith games. AvP 2 is probably one of the buggiest and most crappy coded games I have ever played. FEAR still have tons of bugs even after 3 patches.

Now that I think about it, even Blood (Plasma Pak or not) has bugs too, including one that can crash with a DOS4GW fatal error in the Altar of Stone level.  It's sad really, cause imo, I think NOLF 1 and 2 seem to be the two games Monolith has made that have the least amount of bugs.
