The Divx Video in 640*480 resolution is only 1,77 GB great. Exactly the same, only with resolution 320*240 is 1,77 GB great too.
The WMV is only 380 MB great.

And one correctin:
the Video is 4 hours and 4 minutes long, not 4 1/2 hours

Then you made something wrong. Reduced resolution should result in lower filesize - which bitrate did you use? And please don't use WMV. It sucks. Use XviD instead.

Read this tutorial. It's also covers things you don't need (like recording), but the compressing part is what you might want to read
Best start from the capture section and the subpart "ACQUIRING SOFTWARE". You can skip parts like rerecording from VHS, but well

With some action with the camera, and some mistakes of the game (i recorded, how I heared tha telephone at tiffanys home in a cutszene, and after that a second time, and then the game stood still. the camera didn't moved, but the game didn't crashed.) so I played that fucking level again.
