 Commander Keen 4  After some practice I finally pulled together a decent attempt and a video. Hope you like it. It definately can be improved, by about 10 seconds altogether but it's quite good, except one elevator I missed and a missed jump elsewhere. The codec is included in the download, in case you need it (right click and Install). I guess that will be enough of Keen 4 for me at least until someone decides to annoy me and beat the time DOWNLOAD FROM FILEFRONT, 60.8 MB

I am impressed with the general gameplay.... especially since Keen 4 was the only Commander Keen game I actually completed.
That said, there seems to be a fairly big audio/video desync in any of the media players I use with the codecs used to make the video. (This also happened with a Keen 2 video a while back.) I tried VLC, I tried Media Player Classic, and I tried some others, but none of them could get the two to stay synchronized. There HAS to be something I'm missing.

If you use Media player classic, set the output playback settings to whatever is double-starred. Specificially, VMR9 renderless Directshow video, and I don't think the others matter.

I loved the run - used almost the exact same route I planned out, except for that platform jumping in the Isle of Fire which I had no idea even existed. Aside from the stuff you mentioned, and some jumps / shots that are just too difficult for a SS run (like not looking down in the pyramid, or not waiting for the platforms, or getting the Perilous Pit mushroom on the first try, or whatnot) the only things I noticed were some generally suboptimal jumps in Crystalus (you're on easy mode, abuse it more) and sliding down the poles instead of jumping off them. So yeah, just minor improvements, but highly enjoyable anyways.

Well, this is not the best solution, but if your desync is constant, you should be able to go into ffdshow or your media player and correct for that. I'm pretty sure MPlayer can even handle a linearly changing desync. About DOSBox and SDA, because I don't really play much newer PC games and I agree with everyone else that it's too bad DOSBox can't be officially used... well I had a thought. Shmup players apparently use WolfMAME to prove their scores, which is a special MAME version that disables save states, changing speed settings, etc. Since DOSBox has a GPL license, couldn't it be possible for somebody to do a similar thing and create an SDA-allowable DOSBox? It could prevent things like adjusting the speed, and lock the speed to a timer so that it runs at the same speed on different computers. Things like that. Probably this still wouldn't be allowed but whatever.

Anyway, I started to make a lot better movies in terms of size and compression. At least now I compress the audio and FPS is 35 instead of 70 So the next Keen 4 video should be at least 3 times smaller. And the allowing DOSBox thing - I don't really care. I play for fun but it would certainly be nice if there would be more old DOS classics on SDA.
