Half-life speedrun question

Hi. I like to run HL single segment peedruns, and although I certainly can't beat Spider-waffle's time, I've ran into a problem on the latest verison of HL.
I used to be able to push scientists and other NPC's into locked doors and stuff so they would open them for me. But it doesn't seem to work anymore - they run into the door and kind of 'bounce' off it. This costs a trememdous amount of time with We Got Hostiles of course, but also segments in Anamolous Materials and Office Complex.
Is there a workaround to this 'fix'?

If you're loading a saved game right before the initial NPC push, they won't work. If you aren't however, I don't even know. I think Spider ran into a similar problem but found a way around it somehow.

you have to load your game on a level before the npc, then transition into the level with the npc.
