Thanks. A lot of the routes in this speed run are based of the routes in HL2DQ and some are inspired by the two HL2 speed runs by marshmallow.

No, I'm not from Europe.

Archive.org is still 'deriving' the speedrun - making preview screenshots and whatnot - but once that is done the comments should appear on the webpage. For now you can find some more information about the speed run at: http://z7.invisionfree.com/HL2DQ_Temp_Forum/index.php?showtopic=314

Also I have updated the first post with a link to the demo files.

Why did you quickload at around 57 minutes? I'm talking about where you get hit by this rollemine and fly over the water. You then reloaded and took the long way. Is this some form of health-managing?

I'm not sure what you mean by "the long way" as I don't think there is a faster route for the second part of that level, other than bunny hopping faster. I break it into 2 segments because the roller mine jump is really random and I was only able to pull it off twice, so I wanted to make sure the rest of the level was also good (though it certainly could have gone faster). Yeah I crowbar the box because I needed the health, but it probably only uses up a second or so.

Also it looks like I messed up the meta tags on the archive.org page, and I can't fix the meta tags because they are messed up Sad. I was trying to move it from the "opensource_movies" collection to the "gamevideos" collection via a bit of html editing, so I bet that is was caused it to stop working. I sent in an error report and if that doesn't work I think I might make a new item and reupload everything into that and just let it stay in the "opensource_movies" collection, which I guess is like the default collection for new items. Anyway the filefront link still works, so people can use that for now.

Edit:
I've made a new page on archive.org and it has my comments on each individual chapter, map times, and other information. Only the LQ version is up right now but higher ones will be up soon.

Edit:
All the files are back up, and the speed run is now on youtube. Check the first post for links.

I watched the whole thing. I think it was as interesting as the HL2DQ run, but just in a different way. It's not perfect like the HL2DQ, but the different tricks and the ways you find out to not use your crowbar to even kill some enemies was very impressive. Will you try to get this run up on the site? I think you should at least try. I don't know if there are any "this weapon only" runs up on the site, but since HL2 is so popular you should at least try.

I'm glad you all liked it. I knew I wouldn't have the patience or the skill to improve upon HL2DQ, so instead of trying to compete with their time, I ran it with these constraints to keep it entertaining (despite all the mistakes).

I hadn't seriously considered submitting it to the site as it is not your typical speed run. But I sent Mike an email, and who knows, it just might be added to the site  Smiley.

I had a lot of fun making the speed run and I think speed runs with other interesting constraints could also be fun and entertaining to make and watch. I don't have any immediate plans to work on other speed runs, but if I do another speed run, it would probably be a Gnome speed run of HL2 Episode 2. Does that sound like it would be entertaining to watch?

A Gnome speedrun would be funny to watch. Cheesy

Anyway, I think your run will be added to SDA into low% category. And if it's not accepted, I'm gonna make a murder. Grin

This speedrun is probably the only speedrun I've ever watched without using 2x and 4x speeds in VLC at any given time. And it being the work of a single person only makes it more awesome.

I don't see how you can not skip ahead of the dull story parts. There's only a limited amount of entertainment to be gained by climbing around in rooms, and it's not enough to fill in some of the longer parts.

This run was overall more enjoyable than the hl2dq run because of the clever strategies you found to get around with the limitations you set yourself.

Could you post some CRC32, MD5 checksums? I downloaded the IQ version but it looks like seeking is broken past the 1/8th mark.

I updated the first post with md5 checksums for all versions. The md5 checksum for IQ is 5f892df29fc11893f5c2050b7240d260. Other people have also had problems playing the IQ version, including myself, so if the checksum is the same and it still doesn't play, try the HQ version.
