FWIW, when I did the commentary for Echoes I pre-mixed the game audio and the commentary track before muxing them, so you get both at once. I probably used Audacity for this. IIRC, I mixed the game audio at -15dB or -18dB with the commentary at 0dB. Yeah, I should probably write a guide. There are a lot of things I should probably write a guide for. :P

I just wanted to say, that as a person who doesn't speed run himself but really enjoys speed running as a form of entertainment, that the addition of audio commentary is totally awesome. I definitely hope a lot of speed runners use the ability to have audio commentary, it makes runs that are otherwise pretty boring to watch (because there just aren't a lot of tricks to use or whatever) really fun.

I've got a question. I want to do commentary for my FF6 run, but I don't think I could record for 5+ hours straight. Would it be okay if I broke it up into multiple parts? (I'm thinking 3 right now, but it might turn out to be more.)

Well, you can always just stick them together into one WAV file later anyway.

I just listened to stanski's. Not a bad effort, though I would suggest trying to talk a bit less like AVGN. Swearing and "worst ever" 's are more effective when you save them for the moments that truly deserve it.
Also, I'm thinking about recording one for my Valkyrie Profile B Ending run. Could I just rant about whatever during storyline sections? It would actually be kinda planned and not crazy or dumb or anything (i.e. nothing like my SDA posts).

What's the best way to do commentary for a multisegment multifile run? A seperate recording for each segment, or playing them back all in one go?

Can I make audio commentary for someone else's run? (Namely Chip Vogel's Faxanadu run) >_>

Commentary for the FF6 would be awesome. Not to pressure you into doing it or anything. =P

i wouldn't see a problem with that, as long as the runner thinks its okay. actually, i might want to do a commentary for some other people's runs. Uyama's X4 runs come to mind.

And the GTA:SA commentary was great, I never expected to watch such a long run but the commentary made it fun.
I second that. I was home sick and wasn't generally up to much. Those six hours of GTA fun gave me something to do and the audio commentary actually made me understand what was going on on the screen. This was really, really great. Audio comments FTW! Philip

Man if I could make a commentary for Uyama's Shinobi 3 run I'd probably spend a long-ass time making it as perfect as possible, describing each perfect movement and how graceful / genius his skills are etc. Plus I'd probably curse a lot less since it's so close to perfect I get confused if it's a TAS or not and always applaud when I finish watching. (Not being sarcastic, I really applaud in real life, probably would do that in the commentary as well.)

Alucard, you should totally put on a different voice if you were to do a commentary for Mike's Shinobi 3 run... Something borderline psychotic. It'll be classic. =D

All right, I'm most likely going to record my commentary next Tuesday. My brother's going to come over and we'll record it together--we had a lot of good times with FFVI together when we were kids! Besides, I'm not sure I could think of things to say by myself for over 5 hours anyway. Hopefully this will make it more entertaining. One question, though: After getting a microphone (still need to do this), do I need any special program to record with?
