- If you have trouble maneuvering the Mach Bike, get off it and run. Specifically, in cave areas, you should always run when pushing boulders. There is no reason to use Mach Bike there.
- You should not try to dodge trainers while on the Mach Bike. You should walk past them carefully, although you can run to lure them in some direction.
That's a good idea. I still have to practice with the gba as a controller since the d-pad can't be worse then the gamecube's. Either that or spend $50 on a hori controller. That also explains why I had so much trouble avoiding trainers.
- Were you trying to avoid Lady Cindy? Lady Cindy isn't even a random looking trainer.
- You ran right into one of the Mimic Circle guys. Was that intentional?
All of the fights prior to fighting Roxanne are intentional so Torchic can evolve into Combusken for double-kick. I'm looking into more efficient fights to save time. The only one I came up with is the double battle before Rustboro. I can get 252 exp., but I need to have at least two Pokemon, so I'd have to KO them myself during the fight. It seems more luck based and not that fast. I could always hope to get a rare candy or six from pick-up. After that I only try to fight mandatory trainers, with the exception of the rival in Lilycove. All of the extra battles are because of bad luck, or mistakes.
- Don't switch to a "finishing move" unless there's a good reason to. Just spam the same attack.
- For some Roselia and Shroomish, it might be better to use Ember instead of Strength/Double Kick to avoid status risk. Though Rival's Shroomish might not be OHKO with Ember.
Good point. It would cost a bit of time to switch moves. I need to plan out my pp usage. That would also mean I might not need to get every pp restorative item. A pp up for strength would be nice though. As for ember, I'll probably have to play it safe and use it. I'm sure it can't OHKO shroomish and roselia. Too bad flamethrower and fire blast are the only non contact fire moves at my disposal. Why does overheat have to be a contact move? I should try to limit my use of it anyway.
- In Norman's gym, take the right path after the first Cooltrainer because that second Cooltrainer is the only one who doesn't use an item at the beginning.
- Write down things like maze directions and ice puzzles, instead of memorizing them.
I hate that linoone. I swear it only knows how to use sand attack and headbutt. I don't fight it because Combusken can't outrun it, so it's safer to fight another trainer. At level 28, a naive combusken with a 29 speed IV still can't outrun it. On a related note, having maps handy would make things easier. I'm still impressed how much I actually managed to remember. Doing that run gave me new respect for people who do runs like these. They're not easy.
I really like the route planning. Reminds me of how little route planning I did in the TAS. And I thought I did a lot.
I've still got a lot more to do. I want to go over my funds to optimize my shopping so I can stockpile super potions. I found the locations of two hidden revives and a potion on route. It might be better to limit the number of items I collect though. Did you know the earliest you can buy revives is in Lavaridge? I'm also wondering if Wailord could be useful for the Liza and Tate fight. It would know water spout, which hits both pokemon in a double battle. It might need rain dance for a OHKO. I'd like to experiment more with the second rival fight and Winona to find a foolproof plan. That's all I can think of right now.
The only thing I'd like to know about your TAS is whether Abra could save time by teleporting to Mauville? There's also deathwarping out of Lavaridge gym, but that would lose your status for facade/guts.
