This is a cool topic, I'm not sure why no one thought of the idea sooner. I'll sticky this topic if someone is willing to maintain a list in the first post.

Heh, here and there now even I can manage some nifty stuff around here even if tangentially!  I'm also fine with updating the list as people tell me stuff..just keep me on my toes with posts and PM's folks.

Sry getter77 I did it faster!  Grin

Looking at engines it is hard to say which games did not remove the demo recording if the engine had one already! Maybe I should just list game engines that have demo recording? Otherwise ppl should confirm which games really have demo recording!
Because some of them have long lists. Like unreal engine which has demo recording capabilities! - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games

Not every game running on an engine capable of demo recording does actually support it or it doesn't work properly.

The best way would be probably to google it.

Here's a list of games supported in Seismovision demo player:

No problem!  You've done it much fancier and indepth than I would've.  You can check the forum topic in the website where I've at least got them considering it in part, down the line, with one part, as a start...

(I so see the makings of a badass SDA run with this game considering the PC RPG folk here   Grin   )

I mentioned Descent before; both Descent and Descent 2 have this feature, and they share the same engine (though I can't find a decent name for it... Portal Rendering System?)

I think Descent3 also supports demo recording but it has a vastly different engine called Fusion. It's also a crap game.

That's weird. How come Seismovision supports it ?

I think it would be good if the list covered which games have a good enough demo recorder to be used for runs intended for SDA. A lot of games/game engines have a demo recorder, but some produce demos of such "bad quality" they can't be used for recording SDA content.

Edit: A few examples of games where demo recorder can't be used.

Deus Ex: Various issues, ask dex for a detailed list Wink
All games based on Doom 3 engine: Issues vary from game to game, but common things are graphical glitches such as certain consoles not being rendered etc.

Serious Sam 2 - confirmed, working for single-player and usable for SDA. Been using it for 2 years. There are just 2 issues:

1) Timer not shown - screenshot of the stats after finishing level is required
2) Short cutscenes are not skipped even if you did so. They are very short anyway, so it shouldn't matter.

Everything like hud and things needed for verification are alright.

Postal 2 - I couldn't find anything in this game to produce demos, so I'd remove it from the list.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - I should clarify this. Demo recording works in single-player too, but even the game itself is unable to playback, because it creates unsupported old extension. This should be ok for multi-player though.

Driver - Not usable for SDA since playback doesn't show Damage and Felony bars, speed and timer.

Huh? Weird. I'm sure I tried a bunch of different commands to record demos and in the MOHAA thread some people mentioned that it doesn't seem to work too. I swear, if that works... all the effort in recording my run with fraps has gone to waste... and I have to rerun it. Sad

edit:

Now I see, they use a patched .exe for that. Will that be allowed on SDA?

Oh, and the Unreal 2 demo function is broken (even more than in Doom 3). It creates a demo file, but it doesn't replay it proper. It always shows like an empty skybox. Tested it on the German and UK version of the game.

If a modification in Red Alert 2 run will be allowed(The added ingame timer)! Then this would too!
