Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers is the Wii exclusive title in the budget Onechanbara series (known as Zombie Hunters in Europe) by D3. Bikini Zombie Slayers was released in February 2008 in Japan and February 2009 everywhere else and serves as a direct sequel to the 360 exclusive Bikini Samurai Squad. The game was severely panned by game critics for bland graphics and repetitive gameplay (including receiving a golden mullet by X-Play), but we all know that those reviewers need to have their gamer cards (and their manhoods!) checked. Hot girls in bikinis slashing zombies...what more could you want?

Speed Run Rules:
* Single Session
* Completed on Easy Difficulty
* Completed with Aya
* Takes damage to save time
Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers is part of a game of budget titles (Oneechanbara) originally from Japan. The story follows two step-sisters, Aya and Saki, as their cursed blood is part of the cause for why everybody turns into a zombie. Or something like that...I mean, with a game like this, who cares about the storyline? You know what it's all about - KILLING SHIT.
The game spans 8 chapters, with the 4th, 6th, and 8th all featuring boss fights against the other PCs. It also features 5 levels of difficulty, ranging from Easy (a nice pace) all the way up to Berserk (OMFGNINTENDOHARD). Each of the 4 characters plays a different way with fighting styles ranging from dual swords, to bare fists, to DMC-style gameplay.
The Wii version is a lot of fun to play on, since slashing involves actually swinging the Wiimote or Nunchuck, unlike the Xbox360 game (Bikini Samurai Squad) with its simple button presses. Hearing about this good control scheme and seeing the first demo videos on YouTube, I knew I HAD to speed run this.
Initially I started with the Japanese version (which came out a year earlier), but some language barriers prevented me from picking up a few of the moves necessary to be successful. Once the US version came out in February, I quickly picked up the rest and just started mashing (or technically, slicing) my way to victory.
Each chapter features a built in game timer. This is to be used instead of the global timer in the lower right, as that counts everything, and is thus not reliable. You do need to make sure you save after the credits, or else Chapter 8's time won't be recorded.
Aya is used because I find her gameplay style to be my favorite. Easy difficulty is chosen for speed purposes. Tips are turned off because they're obnoxious and just disrupt the speed run flow.
Chapter 1 (A Blood Soaked Fate)
For the most part, this is almost really an introduction level. There are only 3 mandatory fighting areas, and I use my 1 + Wiimote special with great balance, making sure to use it as much as possible without completely draining my life away. Otherwise I mainly stay in 2-Sword attack mode to take enemies out exceptionally fast.
Time: 00:03:02
Chapter 2 (Huntress Who Wields Darkness)
This level is more obnoxious then anything, since it's all one big mandatory fight area and the enemies love to spread out. No boss is here, even though the level is somewhat like one.
Time: 00:01:10
Chapter 3 (The Accursed Bloodline)
This level can be quick or short, depending on how many Rapid Gem (blue gems) you get. Since this level is very stretched out, those allow you to move much faster. Occasionally I get a drop in Chapter 1, but not this time. A mandatory fight in the parking garage is skipped thanks to a shortcut pointed out to me by a YouTube fan, irpacynot. This saved about 30 seconds in the level. Also, ravens suck. I lost a little time in the last mandatory fight because one enemy was hiding from me.
Time: 00:03:13
Chapter 4 (Warrior of Sorrow, Again)
This level starts out a bit like Chapter 2, but then ends with a boss fight. On easy difficulty, during the fight there are no other enemies. Once you start getting up to the higher difficulties (like Violent, for instance), additional enemies will appear in the fight.
Boss: Saki. There's nothing to say about this boss. She fell in two hits thanks to my 1 + Wiimote special and didn't even get a chance to go into her bloody form.
Time: 00:01:43
Chapter 5 (The Blood Drinking Sword)
Aya, we have no time for shopping! Wait, zombies in the mall? COOL! Let's go slash them up! This level takes us into the subway later, and also introduces us into some zombies that are very resilient to Aya's attacks...except one. The Bloody Heart Ripout move can be executed by attacking 3 times, then doing a forward thrust of the Wiimote.
Thanks to all of the Rapid Gems I got in Chapter 4 (and what I keep getting for drops here), this level goes really quick.
Time: 00:05:26
Chapter 6 (False Assassin)
This chapter is set up pretty much the same as Chapter 4. Fight a few monsters, and then fight the boss.
Boss: Misery. Much like Saki, she also falls in 2 hits and never gets to use her bloody form.
Time: 00:01:49
Chapter 7 (A Nightmare Without End)
This level is one of the longest, most stretched out, and dangerous levels (especially once you get to Violent difficulty). There are new machine gun zombies who can hit you from long ranges, grenaders who, well, throw grenades at you, and more enemies then you can shake a sword at. Proper balance of specials is absolutely crucial to surviving this level. Fortunately, I have plenty of Rapid Gems to get through quickly and Cure Gems to heal me when needed. This is the only level where I seem to need to jump to get through it (unless there's a non jump spot that I've missed).
The cave near the end of the level is an absolutely confusing mess, so I almost need to take a couple of seconds to get myself orientated so I don't accidently backtrack (which is very easy to do).
Interesting to note that the higher difficulties add a mandatory fight along the route I'm already (the room just before the last mandatory fight area in this run).
Time: 00:06:16
Chapter 8
This chapter is just about one thing - BOSS FIGHT. Unlike Chapters 4 and 6, there are no enemies beforehand. On the higher difficulties, there are plenty of enemies in the room while you fight though, which is actually almost fortunate, since the boss gets REALLY hard on Violent and you need all the item drops you can get from the regular enemies.
Boss: Reiko. Since this is Easy difficulty, she falls in two hits much like...wait a second.
Boss 2: Reiko, Bloody Form. Ok, so unlike the other two, she has a second life bar which is her bloody form. Despite her attempt to pull off Matrix-like action, she doesn't have a prayer and this form falls in 2 hits as well.
And now, DANGER IN THE SKY! *Mo-Town Dance Time!*
Time: 00:00:27
Total Time: 00:23:06
After 10 versions of work, Aya is done, but plenty of opportunities remain. Saki? Reiko? Misery? Harder difficulties? Well, only time will tell. Until then, all you can do is keep your eye on the prize and wait for the sexy ladies to return.

This time, Aya's step-sister Saki is used. Easy difficulty is chosen for speed purposes. Tips are turned off because they're obnoxious and just disrupt the speed run flow.
Chapter 1 (The Bloody Wheel of Life)
Having done Aya's game (10 times over), this is interesting as it's her Chapter 5, but backwards. For those curious as to how I dash, being in "fisticuffs" mode (press C to switch between sword drawn and sword sheathed modes) and then thrusting the nunchuck executes the dash. Game was very generous with drops - giving me 2 green gems. I need as many as I can get, because the 1 + Wiimote Shake special will burn through her life like crazy.
Time: 00:03:18
Chapter 2 (A Girl Wreathed in Darkness)
This is the first of Saki's boss fights. Reiko is Aya's final boss. Here, she's just a total pushover and falls in 2 hits and doesn't get to use her bloody form.
Time: 00:00:43
Chapter 3 (Despicable Bloodline)
This is the same as Aya's Chapter 3, but again, it's backwards. A mandatory fight in the parking garage is skipped thanks to a shortcut pointed out to me by a YouTube fan, irpacynot. This saved about 30 seconds in the level. Also, ravens suck.
Time: 00:02:44
Chapter 4 (Blood, Overflowing)
Much like Aya's Chapter 2, this is just a single area with a large mandatory fight. Unlike the previously mentioned chapter, the area is much smaller and easy to kick everybody's ass in. There are some enemies that do NOT fall to the 1 + Wiimote Shake special. Here, you need to slash 3 times then doing a forward thrust with the Wiimote (it's not as easy as you might think).
Time: 00:00:52
Chapter 5 (Locked Away Past)
This is the same as Aya's Chapter 7, though one of the mandatory fights got moved to a different location. You wouldn't believe how easy it is to get completely disorientated after the mandatory fight in the cave.
Time: 00:05:35
Chapter 6 (The Ancient Seal)
This chapter is set up pretty much the same as Chapter 2. Fight a few monsters, and then fight the boss. However, I decided that Saki was too weak here and needed to be beefed up. Using 2 Bloody Lump (which you get by doing the 3 + Thrust combo on the large alien like monsters) I put Saki into Bloody mode, then just start throwing specials left and right. Interesting to note, if you use a Bloody Lump when in Bloody mode, it increases your life, just like a Green Gem. Good to know, because if I didn't have that, I would have died by running out of life after the boss. This is due to the fact that Bloody mode continually drains your life.
Boss: Aya. Unlike everybody else to date, she takes 3 hits to kill, but still doesn't get to use her bloody form.
Time: 00:00:49
Chapter 7 (An Uncontrollable Thirst)
This is the same as Aya's first level, right down to where you have to fight. Only thing that's changed is what you fight. I got some Blue Gems, which allowed me to move at a faster pace. This is great, because the dash is hard to pull off here without continually grappling somebody.
Time: 00:02:24
Chapter 8
This chapter is just about one thing - BOSS FIGHT. Unlike Chapters 2 and 6, there are no enemies beforehand. On the higher difficulties, there are plenty of enemies in the room while you fight though, which is actually almost fortunate, since the boss gets REALLY hard on Violent and you need all the item drops you can get from the regular enemies.
Boss: Misery. Since this is Easy difficulty, she falls in three hits much like...wait a second.
Boss 2: Misery, Bloody Form. Ok, so unlike the other two, she has a second life bar which is her bloody form. After the charge! signal is called out, she doesn't have a prayer and this form falls in 3 hits as well.
And now, DANGER IN THE SKY! *Mo-Town Dance Time!*
Time: 00:00:21
Total Time: 00:16:46
With the experience of Aya's route, Saki only needed 5 to get a nice run off. But still, will I come back to do more? Reiko? Misery? Harder difficulties? Well, only time will tell. Until then, all you can do is keep your eye on the prize and wait for the sexy ladies to return.
