Rune Run 2 : Aerorun

SDA speedrunning Championship 2003 : Contest Seven

  1. The contest is being run on this map. It's another "Rune Run" map from Connor Fitzgerald but this time, instead of starting a new map from scratch, he has converted Mattias "Preacher" Konradsson's deathmatch classic "Aerowalk" in a furiously paced, rune-grabbing, telefragging, ball-crushing, single-player mayhem map called "Aerorun". (Aerowalk used by permission of the author. Thanks Mattias! :-))

  2. All four disciplines are once again being contested. Easy Run, Easy 100%, Nightmare Run and Nightmare 100%.

  3. The Winner in each category will be the person who exits in the fastest time.

  4. Name your files in this format: c7_er/eh/nr/nh_yourname.dem, c7_er/eh/nr/nh_yourname.txt. For example, a nightmare run demo might be called c7_nr_richard.dem

  5. Entries should be sent to sda_contest@planetquake.com, not the regular SDA e-mail address. Any mail sent to this address should generate an automatic reply informing you we have received your demos. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A REPLY THEN CHANCES ARE WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED YOUR DEMO! If this is the case then either try again, catch one of us on ICQ, go to our IRC channel or post something in the forum.

  6. All standard rules apply.

  7. Deadline is Midnight CET, Sunday November 16th 2003.

  8. Any questions or queries, mail us.

  9. Good luck and happy running!

Phew, what a honkingly close contest that was. Of the eighteen entries we received I think there's about fifteen different routes! Many people managed to get what looks to be an optimum 0:10 but the fastest of them all was Timo Nieminen who beat Dane by the narrowest of margins with Martin screaming along in third.

A great turn out for this fun little map. Thanks everyone. It's especially nice to see another brand new name appearing on the list. Welcome to the madness, Mathias. Unfortunately he finished last because despite some obvious skillz he suffered from IRP. (Inexperienced Route Planning). ;-)

If anything the variety of different routes was even greater here than in the Easy Run. There were two things that seperated the top scorers from the rest: Those that found the intermission-shaft-discharge trick and those who are just insane killers. By far the best of the insane dischargers was Martin Selinus, who swept the field clean leaving Anders and Robert to pick up the crumbs in his wake.

Holy mollases! Eight people managed to get 0:10 but no-one quite managed to squeak a 0:09. Closest were Dane Plachetta and Timo who swapped over the top positions this time, and once again taking the lowest step on the winners podium was Martin.

Hugely fast, hugely competitive, hugely varied and not a single bad demo amongst them. :-)

Yoinks! Another win for Martin Selinus and it's not difficult to see just how he did it. Loony rockets, mad grenades and a big intermission boom to finish. For what it's worth this was my favourite demo of this contest. :-) Two seconds behind him came "the twenty-three-ers" Connor, Anders, Ivan and Timo with everyone at least two seconds behind them.

All Nightmare 100% demos available HERE.

And so the carcass of Contest #7 is laid to rest. Congratulations to Timo, Martin and Dane for their glorious wins and only slightly less praise for everyone else that took part. Thank-you all for sending your demos, they were, like, fun, y'know?

Massive thanks also to Connor Fitzgerald and Mattias Konradsson for the conversion and original map respectively. I'm sure you'll all agree that it made one fine contest map. :-)

So now with just one contest left to go where does this leave the Championship Ladder? Well, Anders has open his lead slightly over Robert, but Martin and Timo have both closed the gap. Evrybody else will just have to fight for the honour, the sheer HONOUR of finishing as high as they can. :-)

The next contest will be posted very soon, and if things go to plan it should be a big ol' speck-tack-youuuu-lar finale...
