SDA speedrunning Championship 2003 : Contest Four

  1. The contest is being run on this map. It's another Single Player conversion of an original Id deathmatch map by Basil de Vries. It's small, open, fun and very fast, so I think the runs will be close and the 100%s quite varied. :-)
  2. All four disciplines are once again being contested. Easy Run, Easy 100%, Nightmare Run and Nightmare 100%.
  3. The Winner in each category will be the person who exits in the fastest time.
  4. Name your files in this format: c4_er/eh/nr/nh_yourname.dem, c4_er/eh/nr/nh_yourname.txt. For example, a nightmare run demo might be called c4_nr_richard.dem
  5. Entries should be sent to sda_contest@planetquake.com, not the regular SDA e-mail address. Any mail sent to this address should generate an automatic reply informing you we have received your demos. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A REPLY THEN CHANCES ARE WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED YOUR DEMO! If this is the case then either try again, catch one of us on ICQ, go to our IRC channel or post something on the Message Board.
  6. All standard rules apply.
  7. Deadline is Midnight CET, Sunday August 3rd 2003.
  8. Any questions or queries, mail us.
  9. Good luck and happy running!

Holy cow! What a turn out! Thank-you everyone for taking part.

Well, there was never going to be a terrific variety of routes in this run, it was always going to come down to the fine detail. But in a return to old contest form we have Peter Horvath boosting his way past Joe to take the victory with Martin taking a well earned third place. To see just how close the rest of the field was, check out the battle for fourth place: One ten-thousandth of a second seperated Ken and Timo, our closest result ever, with Kimmo less than a hundredth behind that! And who would have thought that Qurre, making his first demo in ages, would record a 0:07 and still only get one point? People, you've excelled yourselves. :-)

They say turnaround is fair play, so it's nice to see Jozsef Szalontai edge out Peter this time to take the win. Both used the most popular route, with Peter managing to get an extra quad boost in, but nothing was going to stop Joe-2003 from "just doing his job". Weixing took the third place slot in style, with a double intermission kill, and a special mention too to Nolan who did the only intermission shambler GIB of the whole contest.

Which is faster? The vore-ball jump of the shambler-lighning jump? Turns out it was the shambler lightning, but I didn't expect it to be THIS fast! The top three places once again went to Peter Horvath, Joe and Martin, with Peter's breathtaking run sweeping the opposition aside. Even Joe's use of a cool Ogre-grenage boost at the start (a trick which only Connor also managed to perform) wasn't quite enough to stop him. Good to see Ingmar making an appearance, and even if he didn't win he managed to take me to the cleaners in the "silly false name" sub-contest. :-)

For the second contest in a row the mighty Weixing Ye has taken the Nightmare 100% by a comfortable margin, with a unique route and a Triple intermission kill! In second place, Timo was the fastest of the "most popular" route and Basil, in third, the fastest of the "grenaders".

Now THAT was a fun contest. It was really great to see so many people take part. Once again thank-you all.

In summary, Peter dominated, with Joe just a fraction behind him and Martin making the third place spot his own. ;-)

This result has really shaken things up on the Championship Scorecard with Robert's rushed entry costing him the top spot. And just look at all those names powering their way up the table.

We'll be back with another contest very soon. This one will probably be of a slightly different type since I don't want you all to get jaded and bored. :-)
