2nd July 2000 FINAL UPDATE - by Mineral
Mineral's shut down
It's been more or less obvious that this site has been dead for some months already, but this is the official announce. I'm going to army tomorrow and as far as I know the training will last about one year. I'll be able to check my mail once a week or so.

Drum'n' Bass CD ready!
Yes! You can order my music by sending an e-mail to mineral@planetquake.com. The CD consists approx. 25 minutes of D'n'B music having 4 tracks in it. If you're interested in getting your copy, go ahead and tell me about it. The price of the CD is 5$ plus shipping and mailing.

The maintainer of the Teamshambler level design pages, Mr.Shambler, already ordered his copy and posted a small review of the CD at his FPS Demos and Discussion site.

Final words
Lots of thanks to all of you who have been visiting my site, taking part in the contests, giving positive feedback and stuff like that. Much appreciated. The maps and contest demos will remain downloadable. SDA and QdQ will hopefully keep the speedrunning scene active while I'm in the army.

Greets to all the Speedcon attendees too. It was great to have you here at my place for a couple of days. See you in Speedcon 2001! :)

Yoooooo
Just came home from cruising with J-J's damn cool car, heh... I'm a drunk slacker who doesn't update his site as much as he should... Doooh

SDA -new stuff !
Right, enough bullshit. Since Mineral's has been down for quite a while now, I just gotta make another (ridiculous) explain again why I haven't been updating. Well, I had some really important exams a couple of weeks ago, and now that I've gone through all that, I've simply had no good ideas for new contests. Neither I have had any other stuff to tell you about..... This is hopefully not too bad, since SDA's Run of the Week contests have resurrected, thanks to Will!

When talking about SDA, there's some new cool stuff over there. First off all, there are some new features in the tables of the fastest runs that really rock! You can check out the most/least popular levels, detailed information about players etc. Another good thing about SDA is that Nolan has been updating like a mad-man, go check out the latest demos.

Some days / weeks ago (my sense of time is pretty bad these days) SDA accepted new levels to the database. One of the new levels is my level, The Mining Complex, was added there, Wohoo! Markus did some really good stuff on the nightmare run, doing a demo in 0:50. That is a must see with only 1 health left in the exit...

Other news
Some other stuff to mention too. First of all, go read a real horror scenario by Ingmar, this dude almost burned his house

Another thing is that a really cool new level has been released, A3 by Pingu. You can read a review about it at TeamShambler; Shambler also did a really cool speedrun for the level using some impressive tricks, go check that out too!

Finally, Jesse has been doing some good looking progress for his RD2M1 map, check out the screenshot at RDE page. There's some worse news about Jesse too, unfortunately: his computer blew up since his power supply got screwed! :( That really sucks... hope your computer will get fixed somehow Jesse...

My projects
No I haven't done any new maps lately. I wish I had the time for that, I do have some cool ideas.. So as it seems that I won't build more contest / SP maps for a while now, I'll probably arrange another Doom2 contest soon. There's a really old map of mine that I never released. I won't say anything sure yet though, so don't get too excited (eh, I know you still play doom :).

That was nothing about projects yet. Since I've been pretty idle on the speedrunning scene lately, I've gone throughsome serious music composing. My aim is to produce my own CD album with loads of Drum'n'Bass tracks. So far I have finished 55 minutes for the CD (around 7 tracks), but I'm aiming around 70 minutes music. I'll inform you more about the thing later...

I also need to study a lot this spring, so I probably won't have much time to update Mineral's. And I'm off to army 3rd July, but I'll see if I come up with something before that....

/me goes back to grab another b33r from the refrigerator. Woah, this update turned out to be much longer than I thought...

Results
The Phallusy contest is over now, check out the results and download the demos here, Congratz to the winners and thanks to all people who participated!

A speedrun demo
Although the AoP -episode is not listed at SDA, I think its pretty interesting to speedrun. Some months ago I did speedruns for all the maps in the first episode, and now I improved one of my old demos. The map I improved is aop4 and I ran it in 0:42. I managed to improve my old demo by four seconds using a slightly different tactic.

Deadline today
The deadline for Phallusy is today. If you still haven't, send your demos quick!

SDA is back on its feet
Great. Most of you probably know about this already, but I decided to mention it anyway. I've posted lots of new speedruns at SDA, and I just noticed that Nolan (!) had also done an update. Nolan, welcome back :)

[wondering how speedy you can get in this long corridor?]

Phallusy!

Here goes the new contest. Marc Reilly has finished his second contest map - there's lots of space for some real speed and many tricks are to be performed. Download Phallusy now. I've set up three categories for this contest: easy run, nightmare run and nightmare 100%. Go check out the more specific rules and get running! If you have any questions about the rules or feedback, feel free to contact Marc

SDA?
It is really sad that SDA is still down. There's a "technical problem with the new equipment" that at our host is having, which makes the news frame borked. I truly hope they can fix the problem soon... PlanetQuake has been pretty unstable for some time now.

Anyway, after being terribly sick and having a mass-fever, I've finally somehow recovered and polished the old news archive a bit.

Delay
The contest will be delayed for a couple of days.
30th January - by Mineral
Action coming soon...
OK OK, I know. The speedrunning scene has been quiet for quite a while now (SDA is down, no updates at Mineral's, Jesse's been too busy to update RDE regularly). But hey, there's light at the end of the tunnel!

New SDA
The new, better SDA should be up soon. Please wait for just a while longer...

A new contest at Mineral's
Yeah. A new contest should be up soon (aiming to next weekend). Marc Reilly has finished his new contest level, which is damn fun to run IMO. It definitely is a nice map for speedunning.

Mad Coop in Mcomplex!
Some weeks ago, we did a cool 6-player Mad Coop (TM) in Mcomplex. This easy 100% was damn fun to record. Gotta try to improve it someday! Players: Jesse, Will, Ilkka, Optic, Fabian and Ingmar. We managed to finish in 1:27. Download the demo now!

Other
- We've passed 20 000 visitors! Great, thanks to you all!
- I'm going to fix the old news archive and demos section soon. They're pretty much out of order...
- I received a mail from Tim Doherty in which he said that he's having a Speedrunning contest at his site, check it out
- Finally, remember to check out Jesse's RDE site often. Why? Because I've recorded some cool speedruns that will hopefully be updated soon! :-)

3rd January 2000 - by Mineral
The year at PlanetQuake
Exactly one year ago, 3rd January 1999, Mineral's moved to PlanetQuake. Thanks to PQ for being an excellent host. Here goes some statistics from this year...

- There were 15 contests (11 for quake, 4 for doom) in which lots of people participated.
- We had slightly less than 19 000 visitors, averaging over 50 daily visits.
- Released my first proper SP level Mcomplex. It was reviewed at TeamShambler and made it even to the PlanetQuake's Level of The Week. It has received 1200 downloads so far.
- Released total six Quake maps which were used for the Quake contests (three by Mineral, two by Attila Csernyik, one by Marc 'Retard' Reilly).
- Released total four Doom2 maps for the Doom2 contests (two by Mineral, one by Mattias Berggren, one by Ville & Matti Kaipila).
- Produced a small Quake movie "Hit The Roof" with Jesse van Dijk. It was reviewed at Cineplex and got an overall 9/10 score.
- Recorded demos for many non-SDA maps. (mostly speedruns)
- Recorded some QW-trick demos & 0wned Optic in QW duels :)
- Plus all the totally off-topic updates + things that I forgot to mention here.

Finally, big thanks to everyone who have visited & supported this site!

The Future of Mineral's?
I'll have some really important exams coming this spring, but I'll try to find as much time as I can to arrange new contests. As always, most of the contests will be for Quake 1, but it's not an impossibility to have a contest for the good ol' Dooms. We'll see :)
