Jason Hochreiter

General Information

You live in (city & country)?
united states.

Your birthdate (or age)?
10/22/88. 11/22/88 would be far more interesting, but 11/22/33 is the clear winner. 12/34/56 just doesn't make sense.

Your occupation/job/studies?
occupation: student assistant at the college library.
job: see above.
studies: i attend both high school and college. i'll be heading off to the university to study computer science in the fall of 2007.

Your hobbies?
aside from my attempts to speedrun quake, i enjoy: computer programming; playing, listening to, or composing music; playing or speedrunning other games; and saving the world from oversized cutlery.

Your email/icq/mirc/homepage?
email: dingussjr @ gmail.com
mirc: i occassionally idle #qdq.

Your music taste?
probably stuff you've a) never heard of and 2) wouldn't like.

Anything you want to add here (about yourself)?
i'm the guy on the left.

Quake-related Information

Your nickname (story behind it)?
dingussjr. a bastardization of my real name.

Your Quake config (key bindings, etc.)?
nothing particularly noteworthy. i use the numpad for host_framerating. 0 is normal, 1 is 0.001, 2 is 0.002, through 9, being 0.009. eh? eh?

Size of Quake directory on your HD?
16.0 gigs.

Your computer (processor/videocard etc.)?
nothing too exciting. i can usually run quake at a constant 72 fps at 1280x1024 - what more do i need?

Quake settings (resolution, version etc.)?
joequake-gl 1280x1024. my first running was done with winquake at 320x240. good times, good times...

First contact to speedrunning (when, how etc.)?
my first speedrunning didn't involve quake; when i was playing my brand new copy of metroid: zero mission a couple of years ago, i discovered bomb jumping early on and sequence broke the game on my first playthrough. (i have yet to play the game following the intended route.) through discussions with a friend i learned of more exciting sequence breaks and glitches and shortly thereafter learned of m2k2 and sda. though i have attempted a few speedruns over the years (nothing all that notable), my primary interest has always been sequence breaking. sda increased my curiosity in quake enough to get me to buy it - i wish i knew about this game ten years ago.

First speedrunning demo?
my first submitted demo was a horrible joke contest entry. (someone had mentioned that total newcomers were submitting demos, so i thought i'd have a go.) my first record was an easy 100% coop (with friend relomy) of msrj in 22 seconds. (to be fair, relomy and i submitted a large batch of demos for our 'debut,' but this msrj eh2 was our first recorded demo.)

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of)?
i'm not particularly proud of any of my demos - and probably never will be.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from others?
as a newcomer, i haven't watched nearly enough demos to name a favorite. i'm also horribly...what's the word...indecisive?

Favorite player (overall/runs/100%/marathon/coop)?
mandel, lodis, stubgaard, and flavio - in no particular order - stand out as excellent players. (note that i referred to these players seemingly randomly with either their nickname, last name, or first name. i have no explanation for this strange behavior; these are merely the names i associate with these runners. the foods i associate with these runners are egg sandwiches, string cheese, potatoes, and blueberry waffles, not respectively.) jozsef, conner, and martin also have a tendency to produce awe-inspiring demos. once again, though, i don't typically watch very many demos, so i'm sure i'm missing some top-notch quakers here. (hehe, "quakers.")
basically, i admire every player skilled enough to have a record.

Favorite trick in a demo?
ilkka's doublefiendslopejump on e1m4. that's just way too cool for school.

Favorite QdQ release?
the rabbit run was what really got me into quake speedrunning; it's also the only qdq release i've actually watched closely. if the question were clarified as "favorite qdq release based on name," i'd wholeheartedly nominate scourge done slick. that's just darn clever is what it is.

Favorite original Quake map?
e4m5 - it's the only map from episodes two through four (sans e2m1) that i remember, for whatever reason. i've played episode 1 so many times i've grown tired of the maps.

Favorite custom map?
a tie between elin, jjspq2, and msrj. by which i mean jjspq2.

Most annoying monster/map?
monster: SPAWNS ARE ANNOYING MAGIC FUCKERS.
map: if klz100b2 were running for president, i wouldn't vote for it.

Do you like Doom/Quake2/Q3A?
i only played the shareware version of doom; it was only "okay" compared to quake, though i'd be interested in at least trying it. my brother lost my quake2 disc, so i have yet to play it. quake 3 would probably be fun if i didn't suck at it.

What do you think of Quake now?
it's a superb game i wish i knew about ten years ago.

Quake Purity Test score? link
oh shi

Anything else you want to add here?
what we need is a few good taters.
