September 7th, 1983.

Industrial Engineer: I work with Instrumentation, automation and control equipments.

Your hobbies?
Movies, movies and more movies. I love watching a good film, it gives me this feeling I can't describe...

Getting together with my friends and drink beer/whiskey/rum. I love playing ping pong, and I'm actually very damned good at it. Also enjoy playing tennis. I also enjoy street racing.. lol, well, not that much, as it could be dangerous, but I do love driving rear wheel drive cars, so I can sorta drift around the city.

And, last but certainly not least, I have to mention my lovely girlfriend.. she's not a hobby, but I spend as much time with her as possible. I see her daily and I hope we get married someday, really.

Your music taste?
It's quite wide... some bands I like are: Stone Temple Pilots, Guns N Roses, Adema, Metallica, Pearl Jam.. Damn, now that I think of it, there's too many.

Anything you want to add here (about yourself)?
The pic I submitted is me @ Hoover Dam, I think it was Arizona. Yes, I needed a haircut. And I was pretty tired in that pic, had no sleep the night before.

Quake-related Information

Your nickname (story behind it)?
Ken - Played a lot of Street Fighter during my teen years. I swear I didn't even know about the Barbie guy.

Your Quake config (key bindings, etc.)?
Quite unique:

Movement in the arrows in the KEYPAD. (Never found another player, speedrunning or QW, who uses keypad! Damn :( )
Mouse1 attacks.
Enter key jumps.
+ key switches to RL usually.
3 switches to SSG.
Mouse2 fires nails with the best nail weapon. (Also use mouse2 for shaft
sometimes).
9 switches to GL.
1 switches to SG, but I rarely use this.
And shaft.. I put it somewhere depending on the map. It can be mouse2, or + .. Because of this, I have a bit of problems on maps where I have to use nails, shaft and rocket launcher.. :)
But shaft is usually on mouse2, I just forget the bloody nails if I have shaft. ;)

Size of Quake directory on your HD?
I don't know, but it's huge, too many speedrunning maps, too many speedrunning demos, and way too many QW demos. I just love watching demos, of every kind. :)

Your computer (processor/videocard etc.)?
AMD Athlon (I think.. lol, and I built it myself, hah) 2.08 Ghz, with a crappy GeForce4 mx400 or mx440 vid card, I also forget.

Quake settings (resolution, version etc.)?
WinQuake, and I'm @ work right now (hah!) on my laptop, so can't check res. But I play with AWFULLY bad settings.. I use a tiny little screen,
d_mipcap 3, d_mipscale 3 .. looks awful, but it's the only way when it comes to recording demos. :)

I've actually played like that, and then switched to GL Quake, and people swear it's a different game...

First contact to speedrunning (when, how etc.)?
First runner I e-mailed I think was with Peter Horvath, because of his old e1m6_056 which at the time almost made me crap my pants when I saw it. You have got to give him props for not hating me (or at least not telling me if he does), cuz I sure bugged the fuck outta everybody back then. "Make demos! Make demos!", and "Make updates! Make updates!" depending on the person. :( I was a bit inmature I believe, and I sure regret it coz even today, some of the SDA staff dislikes me. :(

First movie I saw was QdQ I think, the NR through Quake. Yonatan was my first Quake hero. Awesome stuff, the QdQ movies.. wow.

First speedrunning demo?
dma1_028 EH and NH... I'd like to own the records there right now, but Basil made some intermission kills and I'd be a pain to beat.. argh!!

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of)?
Gee, I wouldn't know, I spend so little time on most of my records, that none of them is truly impressive. I'm planning on making a really good demo one day, then I'll come and update this.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from others?
This is a tough question, and the answer would be the longest in this profile if I mentioned every demo I wanted.

Peter Horvath is responsible for many of them... e1m4 EH (e"1"m"4", 1:04, on 1/04, heh!), e2m1 EH, e2m3 ER, e1m1 ER, e4m1 NH, e4m2 NH.. Wow, and if only these demos weren't enough, there's always e1m3 EH, Jeez.. awesome stuff.
Markus made many demos I still watch and my jaw drops.
Same thing goes for Jozsef.
Same thing goes for Martin.
Same thing goes for Ilkka... I wish that guy would still make demos, he sure was skilled even in the old days.

Favorite player (overall/runs/100%/marathon/coop)?
Tough one as well.

Peter Horvath has to be, without a doubt, the very best 100% Quake player EVER. No discussion.
Damn, in the past year or two many newcomers have gotten so good, right now I can't even keep track of them. :P

I like many player's styles... A lot. So much I could've worshiped some of them back in the days, lol. I still watch some demos that leave me kinda hypnotized after they finish, and I need like 10 minutes of starring at the monitor so I can recover, hah.

I like Daniel Lindberg's style, a lot. I lost touch with him when I went offline for 3 weeks and then changed ISP (and e-mail).. I've tried to contact him a few times after that, with no luck. Daniel, if you're reading this, mail me..
Ilkka Kurkela has a neat style. Jozsef... well, what's there to say? Best player ever, overall? Maybe.
Markus Taipale was a God in my eyes, for many years. I still pray that he comes back all of the sudden and beats all ID maps runs. :P
I like wide bunnies, like the ones made in QW.. I liked Qurre's style, but he never played that much.
Timo Nieminen's style is probably my favourite, and I'd like to play like him if I could choose which player's still I could have.

For some reason I've never really liked Martin's style too much, but damn, I have to admit he is one of the best ever too. Awesome player.
I'm only gonna mention Martin on this subject, but I consider many players out there to be very skilled.. just don't like their style too much.
Oh, Marlo had a cool style as well.
Connor Fitzgerald has made quite a few impressive demos.

Favorite trick in a demo?
Hrm.. too many come to mind. Double fiend boost in e1m4 was awesome (Ilkka).

The best Trick-Finder ever is also Peter Horvath, IMO. Yet another reason to consider him best ever :P

Favorite QdQ release?
All of them! :)

Favorite original Quake map?
Hard question. e1m2 and e1m6 are among my favorites.

Favorite custom map?
There are many good ones. pb1 is great, Epoch as well.. Prodigy SE pak...

Most annoying monster/map?
Hrm.. don't know right now.

Do you like Doom/Quake2/Q3A?
Out of those three, I've only played Quake 2, and about 5 minutes. So, I'd have to say no. :)

What do you think of Quake now?
Best game ever for speedrunning... only game I've played in these past years, really.. I couldn't be considered a gamer, I believe.

I think (and I hope) that as long as maps keep being made, Quake will NEVER die. Awesome game, it sure means a hell of a lot to me.. I just wish other people would understand this, but they probably see it as just another silly game. To me, it's way more than that, it's an important part of me. No matter how busy I get, there's no way I'm ever quitting Quake. I hope others feel the same. :)

Quake Purity Test score? link
Years ago I took it, and it was: 80.1% quake pure (19.9% quake corrupt).

Anything else you want to add here?
I hate seeing players quit. People: DON'T FUCKING QUIT! Hah, maybe that's not the way to keep 'em here...

Seriously, Quake is great.. I love Quake. There are demos I've watched over a zillion times and I just don't get tired of them.. So, for me it's very hard to hear a good player say "I quit".. or just quit without saying he did, for that matter. Wanna know something? I think if people like Markus would have known what their demos meant to me, they would've forgiven me for being such a pain in the ass. Hehe :P
I wish the community stays alive, and I wish I could meet a runner one day. Never seen one in real life :( Guys, if you take vacations here in the caribbean, contact me so we can get
together..

BTW, I have a rather decent connection @ home, I can ping 100ms to some USA servers... I have 0 coop records, and I'd like one. Who wants to coop with me? :)

Profile written on: 12.09.2005 - my beloved girl's birthday. Gonna buy her a nice watch in my lunch break, I'll see her tonight.
