Stubby | Posted - 27 September 2001 5:40 PST It looks to me like Serious Sam could be suited for speedrunning. It might be a tad too hard on Serious skill though, but the game rules bigtime and it would be fun if anyone had the guts to try. I think it's meant to be a mixture between Doom and Duke Nukem, and the result is just awesome. The final boss exceeds anything I've ever seen in a FPS game before. Hail to the king baaabyyyy.... |
Shambler | Posted - 27 September 2001 6:05 PST I only tried the demo, but I did find a big shortcut in that =). In the first room, go up to the secret ledge, jump on top of the headless guy's, errr, neck, and then jump out the window. You can then run across the top of the map, and I think eventually reach the exit. Unfortunately you then have to kill all those monsters with a pistol LOL. I also remember Werebull jumping was pretty effective....in fact I used that to escape the final demo arena and shoot the monsters from above, as I got bored with that last fight. Full game didn't really appeal to me tho... http://www.planetquake.com/teamshambler - it's Quake single player, bitches. |
DiSTuRBeD | Posted - 27 September 2001 12:47 PST I've done a run in SS before.. it's pretty cool :) There's some potential mad tricks like blasting a rocket into a warebull's forehead while he's sending you flying etc. There's also ways to time demos pretty nicely. The game isn't _really_ suited for running, but if someone got croteam to do a few changes in the next patch, it could be fun as hell. Oh, another problem.. demo files usually end up being HUGE. |
Hanz | Posted - 28 September 2001 8:49 PST I've also managed to do quite a few werebull-jumps in SS to get on a higher ledge. But all in all, the maps are very long and they don't have that many shortcuts.. |
Nagasaki | Posted - 28 September 2001 8:54 PST Actually we started a project with Serious Sam at QdQ already. Everybody who wants to take part might e-mail me or Fredrik. *** |
lodis | Posted - 28 September 2001 16:21 PST There's one very annoying thing in serious sam... Assume a rljump would do 50 damage...and that you have an armor comparable to the yellow armor in q1, then 25 of the damage would be taken out of the armor and 25 out of the health. In quake it's based on the total damage, in this case 50 but in serious sam the height is calculated from the damage you receive in this case 25. This means you sometimes have to damage yourself a few times to get rid of the armor before you can do a proper rljump. Oh yeah, another thing. In easy skill you won't get any damage from your own rockets i.e. you can't rocketjump. I'm sure someone with programming skillz could fix that though (nolan?? :) cool game...but I think most runs would be getting outside the normal map and then running straight to the exit room...pretty dull. But 100% runs maybe? /thomas b Edited by - lodis on 9/28/2001 4:42:10 PM |
Nagasaki | Posted - 1 October 2001 6:06 PST Woa a 100% run on Serious mode would be PRETTY insane! I think we're still lacking resources and can't fix several tech-issues, that's what keeps us from start running properly. If you think you can help out, just raise your voice. We have tried to get in touch with several guys directly from the SSam scene and the coders, though - and soon there will be SS2. I'm not sure wether a run on SS1 would still be worth the effort, because the game is not too popular looking at a long time-range, and it will certainly take a while until we've got a complete run (not talking about a good one here, also)... *** |

Nagasaki | Posted - 1 October 2001 6:07 PST Yea well, now I am the one with the first double-post on the board it seems, due to an internal server error. Where's the flames? *** |
