orbs | Posted - 12 October 2001 3:07 PST Ken you obviously don't know nothing about dm,(i dont think you can unless you have played tons of games online and lan) let me tell you one thing every speedrunner sucks at dm just because the best (read lamest/most effective way) to play dm is totally the opposite of doing a run (in a run you take every change while in dm you try to take as little risk as possible) i think aswell that i wont be the only runner who just refuses to camp. But in fact it's even more complicated only the changing of the dmsettings can players make them adjust their tactics, i prefer dmm3 cuz you cant really camp on weapons. One more thing if i play dm or ctf a lot my running gets worse and if i run a lot my dm/ctf get worse :P

tim | Posted - 12 October 2001 3:40 PST orbs whoever the hell you are .. i totally disagree with you, many ppl including myself say i'm a cautious runner, but in dm i go all hard core cuz i dont' mind dying, its part of the game, and i'll gladly run through exploding grenades and shit or discharge if i think i might get some kills or piss off my opponents, and dm is good for getting better aiming cuz after targeting hard ass moving opponenets something like an ogre is so easy. one last thought, does this mean i'm agreeing with ken for not agreeing with u? :) |
Morfans | Posted - 12 October 2001 4:36 PST Tim, Orbs is Basil. Don't you recognise the somewhat unique use of the English language? ;-) I think you've both proved a very important point that some others should consider before posting. "We are all different." I never really got in to DM but I used to play a ridiculous amount of TF. Going offensive as a medic or soldier is just like speedrunning, defending is often just camping/ambush/dueling. My nights Quake play used to be: speed run while sober/straight; after a few beers/smokes play TF offense; when I could see more than one screen/keyboard play TF defence. |
Max Rebo | Posted - 12 October 2001 5:26 PST I can fairly safely say that Ilkka as a past member of clan CMF was a great player, however he hasn't played actively for years and the competition has probably run away from him. That's not to say he couldn't be great again if he resumed his QWDM carrier. And let me be frank, unless you are a an active member of the Scandinavian scene you are with 90% certainty not great at QWDM. The exceptions in Europe are few, 5-10 english players, 5-10 dutch, 5-10 germans and few odd players from other countries. The Australians are the only ones which comes near the Scandy scene, the North American scene is almost dead with only a maximum of 10 active clans. I know the above may sound arrogant but I've spent 4+ years playing qw and activly watching demos, following other countries etc. I know my QW. You may want to check out www.challenge-smackdown.com for the only worldwide QWDM tournent, incidentally the play-offs in the north-european divison are about to start, 14 of 16 teams are Scandinavian, one Dutch and one German clan make up the other two. |
Adam Hegyi | Posted - 12 October 2001 17:36 PST Max Rebo is right, if there's a good QWDM 1on1 demo, it either comes from Scandinavia, or from AG.Def in Canada :) The best QW clans are from Scandinavia obviously except for the Dutch clan Firing Squad and the Hungarian clan inneR Circle. |
