i agree with the bit about timedemo-ing some peoples demos to make them look better :) it improves the look of my ones anyway

Tim, I _like_ Attilas maps, just not those two :)

Demo: c2_steph.dem Average FPS: 12.7

110m is worse, I admit, because of those hurdles there are too many visible surfaces, so you might get lower FPS (even grey areas from some places).

I'm sorry, but blame Stubby, he bugged me to make the 110m map! :)

I'll send u my old 11.7 (I sent it too late) and u tell me the fps..

I can get faster than that in just a couple of tries now, though, maybe coz I look down a bit more. Well I might have got better too coz I did 11.5 looking straight, I think.. anyways, I'll send u the demo right now (since we're talking on icq. :P)

We live, as we dream - alone.

This friday i bought myself an ak 31 (no not a gun a mainboard :)) and a athlon 1.33 gig +256mb of ddr
and a stupid 8mb standard graphics adapter
and i get 150 fps on good vis'ed maps
and a 100 on bad vis'ed maps
i beat my rec on (from over 4 years) within half an hour from 26.95 to 26.35
i can do the e3m1 slopejump 1 out of 3 now where that used to be 1 out of 300
I use winquake.exe (0.95 i believe it is) and when i timerefresh i get up to 300 fps at ideal places (380 with fov 1 even) 170 at worst places and during playing i get averages of 150 fps....but all that is no prove...nor that i now can conceive speed at Atilla map's (man i hate that 100% wish i had my old system for that they shoot so well all of sudden:))...not even the fact that i could do the e1m4 gj after a couple of tries...but it makes you think...did the excitement of buying new parts gave me this boost? or is it that nice smooth sound of that 9000 rpm cooler?

that 72 fps limit is bulshit imo..even on my old system when i timedemo olddemos i got +/- 90 fps...ofcourse if your quake wont exceed 72 fps...there's no point in timedemoing other ppl's demos..or am i wrong here?

Believe whatever you want but you're wrong.

Basil, it's so very simple.

The FPS limit of a timedemo is limited only by your PC speed. The faster your PC, the greater the FPS. 150? 200? Fine. As long as PCs get faster the FPS of timedemos will keep getting faster.

BUT!!!!!!!!

You can only play the game and record at a maximum of 72 FPS.

If you truly still don't understand I will be happy to go through it with you, very very slowly, on ICQ. ;-)

AttilaPosted - 12 November 2001 11:36 PST
Those average FPS values in my long message are not timedemo results, they are calculated from the demos outside quake.

Your computer could have 300 fps or what, but quake has fps limit at 72. It plays max at 72 fps and writes max 72 frames/sec in a demo. If you have faster computer it helps though to keep it at 72 even in "bad vis'ed" maps.

BTW 110m is a "bad vis'ed" map, because it has a big open area with those hurdles, so it can't be vis'ed too much. But it's a paradise for anti-bunny players (that's why Stubby gave me this idea??? :)

minwaterPosted - 12 November 2001 11:47 PST
So what exactly is the point of knowing your fps?
lonneganPosted - 12 November 2001 11:53 PST
i'd like to have a FPS of 70. Mines around 10 FPS for the 110m map and thats so bad that you can't even jump the hurdles most of the time!

-I believe everything i hear
-ohh richard that sounds intresting
-ok so i'm gonna try again correct me if i'm wrong again
-so the demo is written with 72 fps max..but your comp could have frames between the written frames is it plays quake with a higher framerate then that 72?
-i know i will be wrong again but i might be a bit less wrong then b4:)

Good question! Guess the answer :)

Btw i noticed that when i do several times "timedemo" it's results arent totally the same all the time, then i dont understand what point there was for atilla to timedemo all those demos and then post the results

just a curious newb!

lodisPosted - 15 November 2001 5:18 PST
nagasaki: actually it's just one word: interpolation :)

orbs, of course you get different timedemo results...there's a number of reasons for that...for example
1) you have other programs running which disturb the measuring (i.e. they steal some valuable CPU-time from quake)
2) same thing with your OS
3)round off errors

I suppose the numbers were posted to give us an idea of what fps most people had on that map...
