Last Ever SDA Update! - 3:08 AM
Before we start on the new map demos I think we should take a little look at Jozsef Szalontai's latest Id improvement. He has taken a second off of one of my favourite demos, Peter's Easy 100% of Castle of the Damned. Now, I'm all in favour of people showing off their skillz, but the bunny he does to the silver key is just outrageous, he seems to start it from half way across the room and damn near lands on the key ledge. Normally I would have given this 0:50 a Must Download but Joe says that he's sure he can do a 0:49...
Moving on to the new maps, we have received a whole pile of demos for the runs on dnspq1.
spring2 continues to get a lot of attention.
Still no demos on the jjspq levels but we have our first Easy 100% through hc courtesy of everybodies favourite little cuddle-bunny Ilkka Kurkela. If you believe his .txt file he actually did this 0:55 over two years ago but you know what Ilkka's like. He'll say anything to try and impress us. ;-)
Another map that seems to have gained populatity over the last few hours is prison.
Only one n3sp03 demo this time. Anders and his brother (ANOTHER SDA first timer) Per Nordensten have done the Easy Run in 1:28. (1:32) To be honest this map is not really suited to coop runs but for a first demo I suppose it's important to take it easy and not burn yourself out.
And before I go I would like to say a big fat thank-you on behalf of the SDA crew to everyone that has submitted a demo this year. Without you this would be a pretty pointless site. So thanks to (in "last demo submitted" order) Anders Nordensten, Jonny Andersson, Jozsef Szalontai, Basil de Vries, Kimmo Polvivaara, Thomas Bergendorff, Amrik Kochhar, Dan Stukanev, Arturo Garcia Lasca, Ilkka Kurkela, Aleksander Osipov, Marlo Galinski, Fern, Wim Loones, Rutger Baks, Valeriy Burmistrov, Carl Tholin, Daniel Hansson, Martin Selinus, Niklas Wikstrand, Jordi Ros, Hannu Kankaanpaa, Daniel Andersson, Robert Axelsson, David Hocking, Thomas Stubgaard, Timo Nieminen, Tim Doherty, Attila Csernyik, Peter Horvath, Nolan Pflug, Markus Taipale, Mads-Peter Stubgaard, Daniel Magnusson, Johan Nilsson, Stefan Schwoon, Daniel Lindberg,Will Marsh, Rickard Axelsson, Matt Claydon, Fredrik Eckers, Mark Ferrer, Ingmar Poerner, Shambler, Fredrik Lindblom, Mattias Öman, Andrey Stepanov, Andrey Tanarov, Carl-Johan Andersson, Justin Fleck, Robin Kuivinen, Filip Soderholm, Peter Abrahamsson, KimSvea, Martin Thorning, Damien, Evan Wagner, Juozas Rimas, Attila Molnar, Brad Gross, David Gunderson, Rebecca Axelsson, Ludvig Sjostrand, Sara Hansson, Cameron Engles, Mikael Woolfe, Sergi Cami, Simon Nordberg, Jesse van Dijk and Vlad Burmistrov, and also to everybody that's entered a demo in the Run Of The Whenever and made it such a success. And finally a big wet kiss to those that have just supported us by watching the demos. Let's keep up the good work and make 2002 an even better year. *sniff* I love you guys... *sniff*

Please, no more sp2_006 demos!! - 3:08 AM
Within a couple hours of posting the maps I got a beep on ICQ from Jonny Andersson asking "Am I the first to do a 0:06 on spring2?"
And indeed he beat (in the order they were received) Anders Nordensten, Hannu Kankaanpää, Thomas Bergendorff, Valeriy Burmistrov and Basil de Vries to get 0:06 for the Easy Run and 0:06. for the Nightmare Run. Fast work Jonny. :-)
And then just a short while later we received another demo. I'll just give you a little quote from the .txt...
"Sorry for those who thought :06 will be enough. It ain't ;)"
...and with these words Jozsef Szalontai showed us all how a double grenade jump should be done and did the Easy Run in 0:05. This has got to be the fastest optimisation ever.
That's all for the new maps until tomorrow. All I'll say is that unless you have done a REALLY exceptional Run on that blue map don't bother to send it in, Valeriy has been going mad on it...
Jozsef truly is in unstoppable form at the moment.
And we have our first demos on the very tricky n3sp03_2. It seems the threat of being shafted by Stubby has spurred some people into action.
And what update would be complete without Dan Stukanev improving one of his own records. Once again he's attacked the Nightmare Run of ih1m4 and this time managed to take it down by one more second to 0:36.
And our final demos tonight are all from the man sometimes known as "The True Spirit Of Christmas", Thomas Bergendorff. No one is quite sure why he's known as this because he's a miserable, selfish bum who hates children and likes to kick small, fluffy animals but there you go, there's no accounting for some people.
Stay tuned for all the rest of the new map demos and anything else I might have forgotten this time.

Map Map Mappity Map Map. - 11:58 AM
The first two of these are a little bit special because they're made by people who's name you might just about recognise if you've been paying attention...
The other four maps are all small/medium and seem very runable so top marks to Stubby for digging them out.
We've also received a bulging sackful of very cool demos over the last few days but I'm afraid I've just run out of time so I'll post them later today or tomorrow. Trust me, they're worth the wait. We've got demos from Swedes, Finns, Germans, Idiots, Hungarians, Russians, Trinidadians and all sorts of other foreign types.
And don't forget that today is the last day for entries to the latest Run of the Whenever - The Janitor. I have to say that I just love this map, and even though I've tried about a bazillion different routes I've still only managed to come up with a demo that, frankly, sucks donkey arse. I can't wait to see what the rest of you guys have done, though. :-)

Demos you could lick your cat with. - 8:55 PM
Let's begin with THREE ID improvements.
Now for the first two demos on n3sp03. But before we see the demos I'd just like to warn you all that unless we get some more demos on these two maps soon Stubby has threatened to come round and see each and every one of in turn and anally violate you with his fearsome Viking weapon. You've been warned.
Dan Stukanev has turned his attention back to ih1m4, the bizarrely named Castle of Bad Die. He has used his ever improving bunny skillz (see the 100m run he has included in the .dz if you don't believe me) to wipe two seconds off of his previous Nightmare Run. 0:37.26.
The battle for the Easy Run of tohnsay continues with Amrik Kochhar taking his record back from Wim by one second by using the lift slope jump and bunny through the roof beams to get 1:31. And then the next day he improved it again by adding another grenade boost off a grunt to get 1:30. In fact this is 1:30.1 so I don't think this is the end of this little saga.
And we'll finish off with another crop of cool demos from the prolific Arturo Garcia Lasca.
Before you go check out this picture of some of our Swedish brothers at the recent DreamHack LAN party. Judging from Pixlas's message I don't think he'll be sending in any n3sp03 demos, and as for what the boy Marv has in his hand, well all I'll say is that it's nice to see standards being maintained. :-)
That's all for this time. Stay tuned for another new set of maps any day now, just as soon as I can dig out the URLs.

Blizzard Entertainment - 0:52 AM
First up we have a new map, well actually it's one HUGE map and one small but hellish map. You're not a man if you haven't completed these maps on Nightmare skill killing every monster! Personally, this is one of the coolest custom Quake maps I've played in 4 years. It has the atmosphere, sounds and amount of monsters from Doom, and the Cradle of Filth grunt choir is just awesome! You gotta love them Fire-Shamblers too :) Even though most speedrunners prefer small maps, Richard and I simply couldn't resist adding this map to SDA.
I'll end this update with a link to the cheated site. Peter Horvath did his first cheated demo.....
Merry Christmas to everyone and a God Jul to the scandinavian speaking contries :)

Oops, I did it again.... - 11:06 PM
A big applause goes out to Ingmar for recovering some of the old ROTW info. Now I only need to figure out what happened to the Lost World and Hell's Castle contests. You're also welcome to send me any entries you may have done for the 136 and 1 Minute In E4M5 contests and I'll post them on the ROTW page.

ROTW contest #8 is up + new contest page! - 8:27 AM
Thankfully Hannu Kankaanpää heard my cry for help and made me a fun map for the ROTW named The Janitor. I bet most people will have a few days off from work/school during christmas, so there's no excuse for not submitting a demo for this contest. This will also be the last ROTW contest for 2001. I hope next year will be as much fun as this year has been, speedrunning wise that is :)

Normal Service Has Resumed. - 4:45 PM
Luckily we have hit the usual December slow-down so there isn't too much of a backlog of demos, but those we have received have been some real beauties. :-)
First we have a demo that I have been waiting to arrive ever since he did the Easy version. Amrik Kochhar has done a mighty improvement to Robert's Nightmare Run (or 100%, whatever) of hipend. He has come up with a new route that allows him to... No. I'll let you see for yourselves. 0:33. 5 seconds faster. In fact, he sent in two versions of this demo because Nolan didn't think the first version was asthetically pleasing enough. :-D
Next we have two demo's from yet another SDA virgin. His name is a familiar sight on the Run of the Whenever results table but until now he has never sent in a record. Ladies and Gentlemen will you please welcome Mr Wim Loones.
Amrik has also done the Easy Run (The Long Way) of tohnsay. He has added a grenade jump and generally done a very slick looking demo which turns out to only be one second faster. It looks like it should be at least five seconds faster than Optic's time but you can't argue with QdQStats, it's 1:33.
Arturo García Lasca has been busy this last week since he found out that all his playing problems were down to not using WinQuake. He has improved three of the records on hellctle.
The houstrps runs continue to attract attention. This time Rutger Baks has pitched in with a demo one second faster than Dan's Easy Run. This 0:33 is looking good, but is still not optimum...
We'll finish this update with some mad optimising from that well known comedy double act El Muchachos Optimiso : Jozsef et Valeriy.
That's all for this time. Remember, there's only one day left to get your Run of the Whenever entries in to Stubby. I can't wait to see the winning entries and I'm sure that there is going to be a few suprise routes.
And speaking of suprises, the one mentioned by Thomas below will have to wait a little longer as I haven't managed to complete (or even make much of a start to) my part of it. Be patient, it should be worth the wait, it's made us laugh a lot already just thinking about it. :-) To be honest, I haven't even managed to take my new PC out of it's box yet. I really should get round to that some time...

My head's in the clouds but my feet are on the ground. - 7:54 PM
But due to the marvelous soothing effect of vodka and medicinally herbal roll-ups I'm going to see if I can get through this whole update without being rude, crude or generally insulting to anyone.
First up we have "Angel Face" Amrik Kochhar who has not only atoned for his previous low quality submission with this beautiful one second improvement to Robert's Easy Run of hipend. He has also come up with a new term to describe this type of demo. The route here is the same as Robert's but he has managed to do each part slightly quicker: all the way through he was Fighting Against The Fractions. And as far as FATF[tm] demos go, this one is outstanding. (BTW Amrik. I am stealing your idea. FATF is now [tm] and (c) SDA 2001. If you want to argue about it you'll have to speak to my friend Johnny Cochrane). 0:17.
And being the little cutie he is Amrik has also put everyone out of their misery and done the Nightmare Run of tohnsay in 0:05, one second quicker than Fabian. I was quite suprised that this was the only 0:05 we received .
Next we have Anders "Nice Guy" Nordensten who has further improved his Nightmare 100% of altus2 by two more seconds to get 0:48. This now looks very slick and will take some beating. (Except that every time I say that about a demo it falls within a few weeks. Guarenteed.)
Next we have a one second improvement to Jozsef's Nightmare Run of Wind Tunnels. Who could do such a run? We all knew he couldn't stay playing toss, mass-appeal games forever. Ladies and Gentlemen, it's the return of Daniel "Hey everyone! Look at my cute little butt!" Hansson. 0:59.
And just to prove that he really is playing with the big boys again he has improved his Easy 100% of Wind Tunnels by one second to get 1:31.
Damn! I just realised that I missed a golden opportunity to make a comment about "Daniel going up Jozsef's wind tunnel". Oh well. I'll save it for when Joe takes this record back. :-)
Staying with the Swedes, "Cock Throbbin'" Carl Tholin has improved Thomas's Nightmare run of czg03 by 29 seconds(!) by using his Easy run route. Personally, I think that this 1:03 looks a lot slicker than the Easy Run and also includes a very cunning armour grabbing trick.
Getting back to Daniel. As mentioned last update he has teamed with Jonny "Breathe deep! That's the smell of a real man!" Andersson and Martin "Mambo wit' tha' love python" Selinus to produce a couple of very impressive coops.
Then Martin and Jonny got fed up of Hansson's constant whining and did the Easy 100% of The Tower of Despair on their own in 0:46, 4 seconds faster than Ilkka and Juho-Jussi. An impressive piece of coop play.
And finally Martin and Jonny hooked up with Niklas "Do you know why they call me Pixlas? Come here and let me show you. Ohhhhh, yeah baby, that's gooood..." Wikstrand to do the Easy 100% of The Ebon Fortress two seconds faster than Robert, Rickard and Alexander. 0:54.
We've received another new profile, this time from Timo, and also an updated picture of Anders.
I hope you're all having fun with the latest Run of the Whenever, for the first time ever I think that I'm going to get within a few seconds of the winning entry. I'll still come last, but that's not the point. And do please try to remember that your entries should me mailed to Stubby only and not the main SDA mailbox.
That's it for now. My wife, the lovely Abigail, thinks I've been working too hard recently and deserved a present so she's just spent the money I earned doing all the work on a new P4 1.6GHz PC for me. So I'm off now to put it together. Stay safe...

Run Of The Whenever contest #7 is up! - 5:36 PM
On another note....We have a two cool christmas gifts coming up in the near future. One of them will be posted on Christmas Eve, and the other one is just around the corner. Hint: Certain persons may have heard me talk about some kind of award for SDA contributions......
Oh and btw, in case you guys think I don't do much for SDA anymore, I can assure you that I work my ass off with loads of stuff, namely QdQ stuff, and a certain christmas gift as mentioned above. And to be honest, Richard is a better updater than every other updater there has ever been on SDA, so you're better off with me handling the RotW/player profiles/new maps etc, while Richard takes care of the updates :-)

I'd call him a Living Legend but I don't want to put him under that much pressure. - 10:37 PM
Dan Stukanev has now done his fifth successive improvement to the Nightmare Run on houstrps. He repeated his previous route but managed to save enough health to do the final rocket boost to save one more second. 0:37
But unfortunately for Dan Thomas Bergendorff did the same thing but with a better final rocket boost to save yet another second and get 0:36. You're not going to let him get away with that, are you, Dan?
Moving on to sgc5 and the empty spot for the Easy 100%. Amrik Kochhar sent in this disgraceful 2:06 (which includes a nice egg demo showing just how badly a dog can fuck you up). He begged me not to post it but I've had a hard week so I'm going to make someone else suffer a bit as well. It makes me sad to see that one of the brightest rising stars of SDA can produce such a low quality demo. Luckily for him we also received a nice 1:37 from Jozsef so soon nobody will remember. Beat this, Amrik. Redeem yourself.
And it looks like I owe a pint to Matthias Belz who was the first (in fact the only) person to correctly answer my "palindrome" question about this map from a couple of updates ago. Thanks also to those of you that slightly missed the point and mailed me with the definition of a palindrome, but only Matthias knew that Bolton was a palindrome of Ipswich. Enough said. This subject is now as dead as the parrot I stole it from.
Follwing on from his drunken rantings last time, Ilkka Kurkela was as good as his word and took the Easy 100% of armorgod from Optic by 20 seconds to get 3:46. This now gives Ilkka total ownage of this level.
And the level domination doesn't end there. Anders Nordensten has consolidated his hold on altus2 by taking every record that wasn't his and improving one that was.
The tod 100% madness is still not over! Annoyed at only getting an "honourable mention" last time Arturo García Lasca has come up with yet another variation on killing the first ogre. This makes the rocket ammo extremely tight but it does save one more second on both runs. Easy 100% in 0:29 and Nightmare 100% in 0:29. Will this be the final word on the subject?
And to finish up our single player demos for tonight we finally have our first demo from Rutger Baks. If you've been following this Message Board thread you'll know he's done the Easy run of tohnsay in 0:05, one second faster than Fabian. To be honest, there was never really any chance we would keep this run from being posted on the tables. We just kept quiet because we were interested to see how the thread developed and also because we didn't think it would ever arrive.
You see. Rutger has been saying he's done this demo in this time, and that demo in that time but whenever he tries to send one to us it "mysteriously" fails to arrive. In fact, the demo posted here (and Rutger's profile) were both mailed by someone else, someone we all know and trust. And that's when I realised...
Rutger "Minwater" Baks doesn't really exist! He is in fact Jozsef "schitzophrenic" Szalontai's Dutch split personality! All the evidence is there, you just wait and see if I'm right. ;-)
Since we're on the subject of profiles I think I should mention that we've had four new one's arrive in the last week. (From Rutger/Joe, Niklas, Anders and Big Tommy B). If your profile doesn't include a picture then please feel free to send one in, it always gives us all a cheap laugh at your expense.
In case you haven't seen this yet, check out the side panel on Fr3n's review of kjsp1. Pure class.
I heard from Pretty Balls Andersson that him, Iron Balls Hansson and Big Balls Selinus were at a 5000 person LAN Party this weekend. But you know what a liar Jonny is. There was probably only about 8 people there: The three of them, 4 of their friends and the very lovely Jennie (who I spent about three hours starring at through their webcam on Thursday night. :-)). They have sent in some very nice coop demos but I'm afraid they will have to wait a day or two as I am about to drop dead.
In fact there are already two first-class demos that have arrived while I was writing this update but I'm too demo'd out tonight to do them justice, so another one coming tomorrow, I think. And while we're waiting, let's have a little sing along...
Lemme hear you say Yoooooooo!

Ilkka Conquers Anders's Tower! - 7:51 PM
As expected, the majority of this updates demos are for the 100%s of tod using the new, quadded route. First we have the Easy 100%.
Much the same story for the Nightmare 100%...
We also had impressive 0:31 demos on both skills from Arturo García Lasca. But unfortunately for him they came in several hours after Ilkka's.
Dan Stukanev has turned in a reeeal nice improvement to his Nightmare Run of houstrps. He skipped the red armour at the start and still somehow managed to survive the carnage in the middle of the map. This meant he couldn't do the RJ at the end but he made up for that with a much slicker Gold Key grab. 0:38. Two seconds faster.
Today's final demo comes from a very drunk Ilkka. He has improved Nolan's Nightmare 100% of armorgod by 41 seconds to get 3:53. The run itself is good enough but the .txt file is a classic, in which he pays homage to just about every runner you can think of. The whole thing just goes to prove what most of us have known for a long time: The Finns just can't handle their beer! ;-)
In other news, as I'm sure most of you are aware by now, TeamShambler is now closed. He announced this in a statement last week that was almost completely stolen from the one Nolan made a few weeks ago. When I tried to question him further on ICQ he totally evaded my questions by the simple expedient of not being there. Still, love him or hate him you can't deny the good work he did bringing high quality SP levels to the attention of the wider community.
So long, Shambles. See you on the message board.
But where does that leave the rest of us? How are we going to find out about what's new in the Q1 mapping community. Step forward everyones favourite potted filicales, Fr3n! Yes, it looks like The Fernster is going to continue where Shamby left off at his incredibly imaginatively titled TeamFern Quake Level Reviews! When I tried to question him further about his plans for the future of this site he managed to avoid answering due to the fact that I forgot to send the e-mail..
And finally, if you haven't yet filled in a player profile for yourself, or if you wish to update your old one, then grab this and let us all know who you really are.

Bullets 3 - The Owning - 4:00 PM
Moving on to the new maps, we will begin with sgc5. Also known (probably only by me) as "The Palindrome Map". There's a pint waiting for the first person to tell me why. Winner collects. :-)
Anders Nordensten has been putting some time in on the very vertical altus2.
Terrible map: Loads of lovely demos. It can only be tod.
Aleksander Osipov was not happy that Dan had ended his total ownage of compugib. And he found that, just like cracking one off the wrist, once he'd started he just couldn't stop.
Never one to leave a gaping slot unfilled, I did a Nightmare 100% table filler on perssp2. Shame I forgot to trigger the super-secret on the way out. I even saved a grenade especially for the job. 4:56.
We'll finish off tonight with two very impressives coops.
That's all for now. Gotta run!

They push 'em out like bullets part 2 - 7:23 PM
This update will most likely contain some errors as we're still receiving loads of demos for the new maps, and it's dificult to sort out who did what and who did it first etc.

They push 'em out like bullets!!! - 11:39 PM
Let's kick it off with the most popular map of the new batch.
Next up we have demos on tod which also proved to be popular.
There have also been 4 very cool demos on maps other than the new ones.
Damn, you guys are good. There are already 5 more demos sitting in the inbox! But I will have to offer my apologies to Alex, Hank & Thomas because I'm not fucking doing them tonight! ;-)
This update might be a bit messy and disjointed but that's for two reasons. Firstly, it was hard to sort out all the entries that were submitted. And secondly it was such a tiring job that it took two of us to write the update. So if we screwed up something please don't hesitate to tell us. (True SDA afficionados might like to try to work out which bits I wrote and which bits Stubby wrote, except for this paragraph, of course, as it's completely fucking obvious. :-))

It's that time of month again.... - 3:46 PM
The second batch consists of three fairly small maps, plus one medium sized map.
We even have a third batch of maps coming up soon, we just need to fix a couple of issues like a brand new progs etc.
Enjoy, and happy running...

Alex Owns Amrik! - 11:43 PM
And unfortunately for Amrik, Aleksander Osipov was listening in using some strange Finnish telepathy technique and by using the very same bunny (and a different start route) managed to improve Amrik's time from the last update by four seconds, surpassing Nolan's prediction. 0:38
Alex also applied the same route to the Nightmare Run and came soooooo close to equalling his Easy Run time with this 0:39.1, 9 seconds faster than Optic. This demo also wins my "Coolest trick in this update" award for the perfectly executed spiral bunny down the spiral stairs ending with a monster slide off a DeathKnight.
Speaking of DeathKnights, Valeriy Burmistrov has optimised yet another level. This time he has scraped one final second off of Evan's pg4 Easy Run to get 0:06. Do you know, to this day I have no idea how many and what kind of monsters appear at the end of this map. The first time I ever played it I worked out the telefrag trick (well, it was very obvious). Apparently there's a gold dragon there but all I remember is a big pile of gibs. :-)
Actually, going back to Alex, I'm a bit dissapointed that he didn't send us a demo in time to join the list at the start of the last update, because I have just noticed that a cool corruption of the middle of his name would have been Droz. :-)
David Hocking has planted his foot firmly up Shambler's butt-hole with this fine Easy Run demo on ih1m2. Two naked gren jumps with monsters all around (I love the placement of the second grenade. I think "haphazard" might be the word. :-)) Make this a very tough run. 0:30. A 9 second improvement.
Next, Carl Tholin has decided that Thomas can't own all the czg03 records.
Next up we have two 100% demos on climb from Arturo García Lasca.
Our man in Sosnovy Bor, Dan Stukanev, has pitched in with a rather good Nightmare Run on compugib which has toppled Alex from his total dominance of this level. He improved it by one second to get 0:33.
We had a nice entry for the RotW Competition 6 from Robert Axelsson but he didn't climb down from his woman in time to send it in before the deadline. A shame really as he would have got an overall 5th place.
But he did find the time to fill the gap in the abw tables and do the very hard Nightmare Run in the impressive time of 2:53. I lost track of the number of times he nearly died after the first 15. :-)
And no update would be complete without Jozsef Szalontai, whoring it up on a Beyond Belief level. This time he has changed the end route on bbelief3 to improve Martin's Nightmare Run by two seconds to get 0:51. He thinks another two seconds should be possible and I can't wait to see that demo.
Don't forget to check out the Windlash Runs page which Stubby has updated (Evan, where are you, Dude?) with the latest crop of Cheated and Naked Runs. There are some real treats here so head on over and take a look.

RotW contest #6 results are up! - 1:07 AM
Thursday, November 15th by Morfans
We Have A Winner! - 8:21 PM
So in the order they were received...
THOMAS
BERGENDORFF
has given us demo number 5000 with this 5:53. As a reward for this he will be receiving...
Congratulations to Thomas and a big thank-you to everyone else that has contributed in any way, ever to anything at all. Now let's get on and record the next 5000. :-)
Thomas also filled the gap for the Nightmare Run of czg03 to give himself all four records on the map. You will, of course, notice that this is faster than Amrik's Easy Run. ;-) 1:32.
Martin sent in three more superb demos, unfortunately these were literally a few minutes too late.
It looks like Jozsef Szalontai has optimised another Beyond Belief record. This time it is the Nightmare Run of bbelief1 which he has done in 0:15, one second faster than Alex.
The irrepressible Timo Nieminen keeps on working on the ID Maps. He has improved his Easy Run of The Tomb of Terror by a second to get 0:25. I just love the double OG jump at the start of this run. It's just the kind of trick I love watching because I know I will never be able to do it myself. Outstanding.
Staying down in The Tomb we have Thomas Stubgaard who also seems to be unstoppable on the ID levels at the moment. He has made fairly light work of improving his Easy 100% by one second to get 0:51. Love them curly bunnies in the lava room!
Amrik Kochhar will not stop until every Hipnotic record is his. This time it is the Easy Run of hip3m3 which he managed to do one second faster than Ilkka. 0:42. He includes a suggestion for an even faster way to do it in his .txt but ohhhh, man it would be hard.
And we will finish up this (once again) incredibly long update the same way we started it. With Anders improving his Easy Run of abw by yet another second to get 1:41. I think this will need a new trick to make much more progress.
That's all for now my dear, sweet, lovely, fragrant friends. I'm off for four days in a tiny house in the middle of nowhere with no phone, television or PC and the nearest neighbours are over a mile away. Total peace. :-) Stay clean!

Je Suis Un Arse. - 8:50 AM
Unfortunately, as you all know and I forgot, for a coop record to be valid it needs to be faster than the current Single Player time. As Snoop and Stu's jzblue_3 Easy Run was one second slower than Markus's I'm going to have to remove it from the tables. :-(
Sorry guys, but choosing to challenge a 4 second Markus run was maybe a little ambitious anyway. ;-)
This does, of course, mean that the count of demos reverts to (4993).

Christmas is coming, which means I get to rrriiip the heads off some more turkeys! *drool* - 9:57 PM
The countdown to demo 5000 continues. There is some confusion about exactly which number we are up to so I have decided to draw the line here at 4985. The demos listed here are numbered according to the time they arrived in the SDA mailbox.
abw has seen some hot competition in the last few days.
Jozsef Szalontai has improved the two Runs on....
No, let me start again.
Jozsef Szalontai has optimised the two Runs on bbelief4.
There has also been a fair amount of action on tfl. This level has plently of health, plenty of weapons and plenty of ammo. It also has plenty of big monsters and absolutely no fucking armour. :-)
And finally, we have a coop from David Hocking and SDA newcummer Stuart Mason. They used up 34961 bytes of the world's bandwidth to produce this jzblue_3 Easy Run in 0:05 (0:04 ;-)) (4994). Nice of you to join us, Stu. Let's see some more of what you can do.
So there you have it. Only six demos to go to the big five oh oh oh. Hopefully you're all getting stuck in to the current Run Of The Whenever and if ANYONE gets beaten by me in this one then they might as well just give up now. :-)
There was something else I really meant to say but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

Christmas is a coming, the geese are getting fat. Please put a penny in the old man's hat... - 4:41 PM
Check out this thread on the Compet-N forum. It has quite an amusing development :)
David Hocking followed Tim's advice and filled out a player profile which you can view here.
And as the grand finale I think we all should have a big laugh at Richard's expense. This is the man you all admire and love so much for his humorous updates! That's the look of a real MAN boys and girls....sideburns that would make even Elvis proud. You can't help but love that mullet too :-)
All demos download available here (UK) and here (Denmark).

Salute Me, Hannu!... - 11:12 PM
Anders Nordensten and Tim Doherty have also been fighting it out for the Easy 100% on this very popular map.
Well it seems that the new maps have got a few mixed reviews. Some people love them, some people hate them. There have been a few people saying that they're not short or easy enough, but to be honest when you have Nolan, Thomas and Me looking at maps what do you really expect. After all, we all three of us have a history of prefering to work our way around a long and hard one.
Damn, that was a lot of text just to get in one smutty comment! But it made me chuckle to myself so I'm afraid you're stuck with it. But for those wishing for some slightly quicker maps we should have something to announce within a couple of weeks of the end of the latest Run Of The Whenever.
Now we have everyone's favourite Mad Axeman Thomas Stubgaard with yet another very cool ID record improvement. He has beaten one of my favourite demos, Alex's Nightmare 100% of Castle Of The Damned, by four seconds to give him 1:06. This now makes 10 straight demo updates with an ID improvement in it! You people just don't know when to give up...
Making his comeback after far too many months away we have Marlo Galinski recapturing his Easy 100% of black1 from Mads-Peter by 13 seconds. He makes it look so simple... 2:24.
Getting back to the new levels we have two more amazing demos from Joszef on perssp2.
We finally have some demos on tfl. It's a shame people haven't liked this level too much as I'm sure it has good potential.
And as if to prove me right he has done a czg03 Easy 100% tablefiller. 7:21.
That's it for the new maps, but we also have a couple of regular custom map demos.
Amrik has also improved his Easy Run Maraton of the black levels by 10 seconds to give him a much better but still highly improvable 4:44.
And now on to the coops. We have had two sets of runners sending in demos this week and it really couldn't get much better than these guys.
We have all hoped for the return of the Team Supreme and sure enough Attila Csernyik and Peter Horvath have produced two fine new demos.
Could anyone compete with this level of quality coop play? Just ask Alexander Osipov and Ilkka Kurkela. They started off with a table filler, just to get their eye in.
Then they improved two of their own times.
They then felt the need to take some MP records.
And for a grand finale they totally destroyed Evan and Basil's Nightmare 100% of hip1m2 by a massive 33 seconds (!) to get 1:24.
Holy shit. That was one mutha of a long update. I'm knackered! I started this at 09:00 this morning completely sober and, after endless interuptions, have finished it at 23:00 completely wasted. But before I go there's one or two items of news which I'd like to draw your attention to.
Massive all demo download available from, as ever, here (UK) and here (Denmark).

RotW contest #6 is up! - 3:00 PM
Grab the map here and remember to always read the rules thoroughly before submitting your entries.
You won't get the usual 20 championship points for a winning entry, but only 10 points as there's four types of disciplines this time around. This means that the maximum score that could be given for all disciplines would be 40 championship points in total.
Thanks to Aleksander for pointing out a stupid mistake I had done in the readme.txt. So if you've already grabbed the map before this update came online, then please download it again to clear out any confussion :-)
This contest will last for 14 days. Deaday, November 18th,17:00 EST, 22:00 GMT, 23:00 CET, 2001.
P.S. A big hooray for Morfans who turned 32 today. Definitely the oldest speedrunner in town :-)
But please don't bug him too much on ICQ today, as he'll most likely have a huge hangover from last night.....

Well Shiver Me Timbers! - 10:46 PM
Markus Taipale has totally excelled himself yet again with two outrageously good ID demos. These are so obviously Must Download that I'm not even going to say it. (Okay, I know I just did, but you know what I mean).
It would appear that Nolan "Grandmaster" Pflug has been abusing his position as Head Honcho at SDA by getting in some early practice on czg03. It's the only way I can assume he has managed to do this as near as damn it optimised Nightmare 100% so soon after the map's release. I am very disappointed that a man of respect such as Nolan could behave in such a way, but I must say that moves such as leaving the YA secret until the end and consistantly failing to kill most of the Scrags were a stroke of genius. 14:03
All the rest of Today's demos come courtesy of two people. Amrik "Two Aitches" Kochhar and Tim "Not Shannon" Doherty.
All demos download available here (UK) and here (Denmark). Sorry I missed a couple of demos last time. Typically it was my own demo I forgot to include. There have been a couple of demos come in while I've been writing this but lack of time precludes me from posting them. :-( So digest these demos over the next couple of days and prepare yourself for another round of quality speedruns. The same, only more so!

Love The New ICQ Nick, Jonny. - 11:41 PM
Martin Selinus has decided to fight back at Jozsef over the Hell's Atrium Long Way Nightmare Run. This looks like it was hard work but you can't argue with the quality of the bunnies or the fact that it's two seconds faster. 0:56.
Martin has also teamed up with Anders Nordensten to do two impressive coops.
On to the new levels. First Amrik Kochhar has done the Easy Run of czg03 with a nice route. A little messy at the end, though. 1:35
Moving on to kjsp1 and we have two very nice demos.
Tim also went mad on abw doing both 100% records in two solid demos. He did the Easy in 2:34 and the Nightmare in 3:40. He cut the health very fine indeed at the end of this one. :-)
And finally for tonight we move on to perssp2.
That's it for now, the rest of the demos will be posted in the next couple of days. Keep 'em coming. :-)

Trinidad Tornado Tackles Tur Torment! - 1:56 AM
Let's start off with Daniel Andersson and his old, old demo (well, it's been sat in my inbox for a week) on czg_moon. Just when we all thought this level had quietened down he improved Amrik's Nightmare Run by three seconds with some nifty bunny work to get 0:37.
Amrik Kochhar might have just lost one record but I don't think he'll be too upset. He has sent in three demos on the Hipnotic levels this week.
Last time we saw newcomer Anders Nordensten make his first contributions to The Archive. He has followed it up by shaving one second off of Fabian's thought to be optimised Easy Run of The Bastardry. Way to go Anders! 0:21
And it's just as well he did otherwise he would have no records left because Max Rebo, Mr Daniel Magnusson, has fought back and retaken both of his mntbase2 Run records.
The marathons just keep on coming from Typhoon Tim Doherty. He has done the first ever marathons on the Black Episode.
Staying on the Black Levels, Mads-Peter Stubgaard has proved that at least one Stubgarrd has got some Quake skillz. He improved Marlo's Easy 100% of black1 by six seconds to get 2:37. Tim, watch this demo to see how to avoid the fish in the water. ;-)
Mads-Peter then teamed up with his big brother Thomas "The Axe" Stubgaard to tackle the Easy 100% of The Haunted Halls. They improved Evan and Justin's time by three seconds to get a comfortable 1:11.
That's the end of the demos, and now, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the first batch of new maps....
So no excuses. Get your best running trousers on (or "pants" as the Americans will insist on calling them) and let the battle begin. But be quick (hee hee) because there's even more coming soon(ish).
Happy running!

SDA Rules Review. - 4:57 PM
Simple, eh? As I said at the top, 90% of people are doing these things anyway, most of those that don't are new to the scene, and those who seem to be deliberately trying to annoy us (and I'm not talking about Ken this time) can kiss me right on my big, purple bell end.
Which brings us on to a subject that has been quite a hot Message Board topic recently. New maps. We have had a good long think about this and have decided the following.
So there you have it. Any questions then mail us, ICQ us or post something on the Message Board. Above all, let's keep on running the greatest game ever made. You know it makes sense.
BTW. There will be a demo update sometime over the weekend. I couldn't do one this week as I have had an absolute c*&t of a week at work.

Shut the f*ck up and have fun! - 7:23 PM
There's nothing wrong at all with kindly pointing out typos and mess ups in the tables (I have to thank Matthias for always keeping tabs on us) but we don't want to hear complaints about things we can't control. Lately some people have wondered why I don't do updates anymore. One reason is I simply don't have time. But the main reason is that it wasn't fun anymore. I started my quake page over four years ago just because I felt like having a resource to list all the speed running records. At the time they all sucked because it was mainly just me. Over the past 4.5 years I've seen nearly a gig of demo come in my inbox. Some have sucked. Some are ok. Some are great. Some make my jaw drop to this day in amazement. I guess that's why I started it all... to see what could be done.
But you know what? A few months ago I quit caring as much, because a sum of a lot of people made the whole thing not fun anymore. You know who you are most likely, and I know you'll probably take this to mean that i 'hate' you all and I dont really care if you think that anymore. As far as I'm concerned you won't see an update from me again.
Good luck Stubby and Richard...

Serious Business. - 8:45 PM
We will begin with the Hungarian Bunny Machine, Jozsef Szalontai, who has taken both of the Long Way Runs on Hell's Atrium.
Amrik Kochhar has been pedalling his bike like a demon for the last few days and has managed to take two Hipnotic records from our ol' pal Optic.
Speaking of Optic reminds me: What do you call a man with a 2 inch penis trying to have sex?
*drum roll*
Just-in!
I would like to make it quite clear that the "joke" above was only prompted by Mr Fleck's christian name, it was in no way suppossed to imply that he has a small cock. In fact I've been told by an undisclosed source known only as "S" that when he gets it up it looks like a two year old child's arm holding a big, red apple.
It's always nice to see new people submitting demos, and this week Anders Nordensten has lost his SDA virginity with two impressive demos.
Keep up the good work, Anders, and soon you'll be submitting demos as good as these three from someone who's testicular beauty has been the talk of the Message Board recently. Jonny Andersson has been following Stubby's advice on developing a smoother wrist motion with a hectic training schedule of one-handed web surfing.
The big download file is, as always, available from here (UK) and here (Denmark). This one contains a bonus egg demo from Stubby proving that although ogres are stupid, they have amazing powers of balance, even after they're dead.
Enjoy the demos. See you next time.

What's in a Name? - 8:05 PM
Two more ID records have been broken this week.
One of our friends from Russia, Dan Stukanev, seems to be on a mission to capture all of Optics old records. He has now turned his attention to the Hipnotic tables and the Easy Run of hip3m4. He improved it by the usual one second to give him 1:07.
Tim Doherty has definitely put his bike crash and battle with the flu behind him as he completes his second Nightmare 100% Marathon in a week. This time he has filled the hole in the Beyond Belief table with this cautious, but impressive (it's a NH Marathon FFS!), 31:09.
And now, a little story...
Amrik Kochhar walks into a store to do his weekly grocery shopping. He goes around collecting all his stuff and then goes to pay.
The lady at the cash register goes through the items: One pint of milk; small loaf of bread; 4 x six pack of beer; 6 individual microwave meals; 1 porno mag.
She looks up at him, looks at what he's bought, looks back at him and says, "Tell me, Amrik. You're single, aren't you?"
"How did you know that?" He asked. "Is it because I did the Easy Run of hip3m2 in 0:28, three seconds faster than Ilkka?"
"No." She replied.
"Then is it because I improved my Easy 100% of czg_moon by 35 seconds to get 2:35?"
"No." She replied.
"Well, is it because I took three seconds off of Justin's Easy 100% of earth for a 1:36?"
"No." She replied.
"I'll bet it's because Martin has totally owned my bbelief3 records? Doing the Easy Run one second faster than I did to get 0:47 and the Nightmare Run 2 seconds faster to give him 0:53?"
"No." She replied.
"Then how did you know?"
"Well..." she said,*drumroll*
"...it's because you're fucking ugly!"
The usual big .dz mirrors are in place here (UK) and here (Denmark) so go grab the bastard and start watching.
Finally, don't forget to check out the profiles every now and then. In the last few days we've had new and revised profiles for Johan, Carl, Ingmar, Stubby and me. That's all for this time, stay tuned for more demos and jokes at Amrik's expense. :-)

Nolan Loves Everyone! - 3:14 PM
Except for Ken, of course. ;-)
Which brings us rather neatly to the latest demos. Amrik Kochhar, The Trinidad Tornado, has taken both of the 100% records on dma1 from Arturo.
The next demo comes from the Russian Deathknight himself, Valeriy Burmistrov. He has improved Ilkka's ancient bbelief2 Nightmare Run by one second to give him 0:15. Rumour has it that Jozsef has also done the Easy Run in the same time but you're just going to have to wait for SBBlite2 to see it.
Jonny Andersson, The Uddevalla Whirlwind, has taken another second off of his chessp1 Easy 100% to give him 1:01. Personally, I think he could get under a minute if he was to grenade the zombies in a different way....
Tim Doherty, The Kiwi Cyclone, has filled yet another gap in the Rogue Marathon tables. This time he has totally abandoned his sanity and done the Nightmare 100% through the entire mission pack in the (probably not optimum) time of 78:19. Because of the bizarre reproductive behaviour of the Hell Spawns he has only 1333 kills, 4 less than the combined total for Nolan's NR1 and NR2 demos. For all you students of advanced mathematics out there that would make his total kills 1337. You just know he did it on purpose...
Our first coop for a few weeks comes to us courtesy of the Brothers Stubgaard Full Contact Tag Team. Thomas and Mads-Peter have improved Nolan and Evan's e4m5 NIghtmare 100% by 8 seconds to give them 1:57.
And no update these days would be complete without an ID improvement. This time Timo Nieminen, The Finnish Hurricane, has taken the Easy Run of e2m7 from Robert by one second to give him 0:32. He even suggests a way to improve it but it would take a brave man to try it...
The big download is available as usual from here (UK) and here (Denmark) without Tim's 4 Meg marathon, of here with it.
Please remember that these combined files are only available for a short time after each update so don't come maoning to us that you've tried to download one from several weeks ago and it isn't there anymore because, paradoxically, even though you're right, you'll still be a c^%t.
Enjoy!

!eM pleH - 2:17 PM
"Friends, Romans, Countrymen: lend me a horse. For I come here not to bury Ceasar but to frag his biatch arse with some wintery discontent." (Henry XXVII, Act 37, Scene 3)
Food for thought indeed, but I think you'll agree that this site captures the essence of these words once you've seen the latest set of demos.
We have 3 ID records, 2 of which are going straight on to the Unbeatable Runs Table, and 5 other runs of such high quality that you'll think you've died and gone to the afterlife paradise of your choice.
To kick things off, we have three demos on darkages. In the last update Dan Stukanev took the Nightmare Run record, now the other three have also fallen.
Ilkka Kurkela is definitely back. He has reclaimed his Easy Run of hip1m5 from Martin by 4 seconds to get 1:31. This run doesn't contain any spectacular, almost impossible tricks or massive damage boosts, just 101 small monster avoiding and corner cutting tricks (watch out for monster slides over Centroids). Beautiful.
Jozsef Szalontai makes it all look so simple. He has taken 6 seconds off of Justin's seemingly solid Easy Run of earth without even looking like he's trying. 0:53.
Looking back over the last month I am amazed at the number of ID improvements we have seen. And from the rumours I hear it isn't going to stop any time soon.
Once again, a single download of all eight demos is available from here (UK) and here (Denmark). Nolan has been making some heroic efforts in fixing the download servers but from the reaction on the message board I think we will keep on doing this in the future anyway. (Damn! Useful feedback from the message board already! And I thought it was all just chicken choking and insults. :-))

The goal of this contest is to run through E4M7 (Azure Agony) and get all 9 secrets and exit as fast as possible. Check the Run of the Whenever page for more info and make sure you download the provided progs.
This contest will last for a week (I hope I didn't calculate wrong this time). Deadline is Monday, October 15th, 17:00 EST, 22:00 GMT, 23:00 CET, 2001.

The Return Of... - 4:19 AM
As if one prodigal son returning to the fold wasn't enough, we have received a demo from the most prolific man in Speed Running history. Apparently he's been locked in a brothel for the last few months, which explains why his hand's a little shakey, but he's back to reclaim his Easy Run of zer1m4 from David Hocking by one second to get 1:26. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Mr Justin "Optic" Fleck!
Our final Comeback King of the night is bunny pioneer, trained killer and all-round nice guy Ilkka Kurkela. (I know he did the cool e4m8 Easy Run a while ago but that was at SpeedCon and doesn't count :-))
He has taken back his Easy 100% of elektra from Carl by 6 seconds to give him 0:55.
I need a drink after that. BRB.
*burp* That's better. Our next demo is yet another ID Nightmare 100% improvement from Thomas Stubgaard. This time he improved his e4m7 record by 10 seconds, just by faster running and frighteningly smooth shotgun work, to get 3:38. Also included in here is a brilliant egg of the two stupidest fish to ever ride a boomstick. Must Download.
Dan Stukanev's runs just keep getting more impressive. This time he has improved Optic's Nightmare Run of darkages by one second to 0:30.
Eh? What's that you say? No link to Optic's demo? Well that's because I mailed David yesterday to point out that he didn't record his demo using the ZerStats patch, he replied this morning with this 1:26 several hours before Optic's arrived. That's rather Countered your Strike back into the heart of SDA, hasn't it, hookah toker? ;-)
But I sincerely hope this doesn't slow him down because he only has another 59 demos to go until he reaches the magic 1000 demo's submitted! And when he gets there I will personally buy him a beer and roll him a foot long doobie. (I've got no idea how I'll get them to him though...)
Naturally, the servers still aren't working so you can get a .dz of all these demos here (UK) and here (Denmark, available after Stubby wakes up tomorrow).
Please don't bitch at us about the servers, we are trying to get them fixed but it's totally out of our hands. We know it's frustrating and annoying but please be patient and try not to be too hard on us.
Otherwise we'll come to your house and kill you! :-)
Goodnight.

The Phallus Grinding Pit. - 10:20 PM
The first demo of the evening comes to us from the Hungarian Cannonball that is Jozsef Szalontai. He has managed to shave 2 seconds off of his Nightmare Run of phallusy with a couple of route tweaks. The speed he now gets from the first boost has to be seen to be believed, and he still says it's not optimised yet! 0:26
Speaking of Joe, you must head on over to the QdQ Improvements Page and download his e2m3 0:16 nightmare run. Frightening.
Carl Tholin has gone RDE mad and taken the three rd1m1 - Quadrant Six records that he didn't already have. (BTW. Jesse, I'm sure you must have heard this a million times but a quadrant is one part, or area, of four parts. In order to have a 6 it would need to be at least a sextant.)
David Hocking has done the first Zerstorer improvement for quite some time. He beat Bong Boy Fleck's Easy Run of zer1m4 by three seconds to get 1:27. He also includes a nice little egg demo showing what can happen when enforcers act like dumb fu%$ks around the teleporters.
And to complete our demo round-up for this update we take a dive into the pit with Martin Selinus and Jonny Anderson.
That's the end of the demos for now. There is one more just come in but I'm not going to post it until you can get to it. By which I mean that the FilePlanet servers are b0rked again. You can't even get to some of the files that were available before. :-/
But believe me this one is a bit of a suprise and well worth the wait....

Mad Vikings and Beach Nightmares. - 2:30 PM
So let's begin by charging straight in to the Haunted Halls, running around like a madman and swinging our axe at everything that moves. Such behaviour could only come from someone of Viking heritage, in this case the Main Dane Thomas Stubgaard.
Stubby has not been idle the last few days. He has improved three of the four single player records on e3m7. (Well, I guess he's just not an "Easy Run" kind of guy).
Before I leave I've just got time to tell you about a nice little bit of optimising that Amrik Kochhar has been working on in the last few days. In DanielM's .txt from his Nightmare 100% of beach1 he says that he thinks a two second improvement to 0:21 would be optimum. On Sunday night (my time) Amrik sent in the "optimum" 0:21 but he thought he could do better. On Monday he sent in a 0:20 and thought that was the end of it. But Stubby then suggested to him that maybe he could squeeze in an extra grenade boost too. So off he went and finally came back with this very impressive 0:19. Personally, with a better grenade boost I think he could do an 0:18. ;-)
BTW. Watch out for the last scrag kill. Depending on how you look at it it's either the luckiest or the slickest kill we've seen for a long time.
Stay tuned, more to follow....

Short but Sweeeet. - 2:22 PM
But you didn't come here to listen to me bang on about how much I love message boards. You came here to see if the latest demos could live up to the high standard of the last few weeks, and the answer is that you can bet your biatch ass they do.
The first two are taken from an upcoming QdQ project called Qd100Qwav. This project (like all QdQ projects) is likely to take some time to finish so the team has decided to post some of the first person scratch runs. For the later levels and the recams you'll just have to wait for the finished production.
Do you think you can handle any more ID NH? You don't have a choice with Stubby around. I wish I could see Amrik's face when he sees that his recent e1m4 demo has been owned by 10 seconds. He always said the hardest part of this map was working out how to kill the ogres and fiends by the silver key door. Well, my friend, this 2:12 shows you how it's done. :-)
Amrik Kochhar has added a little swish-swash-jump to the 100% records on dwell. He did the Easy 100% in 1:22 (the only Easy skill demo in this update!), 4 seconds faster than Justin, and the Nightmare 100% in 1:49, 7 seconds faster than Justin.
And of course, no update would be complete without a demo from Uddevalla. Daniel Andersson has improved his Nightmare Run of frbdbase by another second to give him a fine 0:35.
That's all. Now I suggest that you all head back to the Message Board and start a new thread called "Why Richard is the greatest Updater, Speed Runner and Sexual Tyranosaurus of all time."

ID Demo Frenzy - 11:00 PM
We begin with four demos on the ever popular Beyond Belief maps.
As good as those demos were, I think it's time to unveil the EIGHT ID improvements we have for you this week. I can't remember the last time we had eight different ID records broken in one week, and frankly I can't be frigged to trawl back through the news to find out. And even though a lot of these are from people beating their own records (and we all know how often some of these people "beat their own") not one of these is a cheap improvement. All are Must Download. So, in level order they are....
Marvin has given us our first Hipnotic improvement for a while. He bunnied and hugged his way around hipdm1 and finally tempted the shambler into a good position to get a 0:23, 2 seconds faster than Ilkka.
And for the last demo, fresh in tonight from Sweden, Jonny Andersson has improved his Easy 100% (despite the fact his .txt says Easy Run) of escape by a whole big second to get a 1:04.
Finally, Stubby has updated the links page with links to Ingmar's Ill Mind Moves and Compet-N, and if you don't know what that is, go take a look.
G'night y'all.

Coop Orgies and Main Danes - 11:00 PM
We'll start off the demos tonight with a coop orgy by a couple of seriously disturbed Swedes. (See here if you don't believe me). Johan Nilsson and Carl Tholin have produced 8 demos of various qualities for your entertainment.
Thomas Stubgaard is definitely back in full ID Nightmare 100% mode. This time he has improved his own e3m6 by three seconds to get 4:33. As Thomas says, when it comes to this map there are four words that spring to mind: patience, persistance, monster-cooperation and shotgun skillz.
Amrik Kochhar continues his attempt to own every Beyond Belief record. Some people might say that such a quest is futile (as futile as trying to get him to shut up on ICQ?) but he's not letting that daunt him.
Finally, I teamed up with The Main Dane to fill the Nightmare 100% hole on the normal gravity e1m8. We tried a few days ago and got a 1:02, but it wasn't very good and Stubby forgot to record it (DOH!) so we tried again last night and we SUCKED. The best we could do was this 1:03.
BTW. I uploaded the demos about two hours ago but they haven't copied across to the mirror sites yet. So if you can't download them now please do try later. I apologise on behalf of PlanetQuake and the GameSpy Network for any inconvenience caused. (I have to say that, If you check my e-mail address above you'll see that I'm now an official corporate wh0re. :-))

Here we go again! - 12:31 AM
All demos Must Download
Thursday, September 13th by Morfans
Peace! - 4:30 PM
Jonny Andersson has sent in two sweet eyesock demos.
The Russian Optimising Machine that is Valeriy Burmistrov has managed to do the promised Easy 100% of beach1 in 0:24. He did this by finally managing to get all three Ogre kills without breaking step once. Is a 0:23 possible? Rather you than me. :-)
You'd think that after all this time the ID tables could get a well deserved rest. But not with people like Daniel Lindberg And Thomas Stubgaard around.
Thomas Bergendorff tried to resist the lure of speed running but I'm very glad to say he couldn't. He managed to do the Nightmare run of networld in 1:33, a massive 19 seconds faster than DanielM, before he had to get back to his *cough* wrist exercises.
Amrik Kochhar has suprised us all by making a further (and I think final) improvement to his Easy Run Marathon on Beyond Belief. Outstanding running across all the levels gave him a five second improvement of 2:55. Check his .txt file: it reads like an acceptance speech at the Oscars. :-) Must Download.
For those of you that would like to try something a little different, Daz from The DaZ Dranz Level Cave is hosting a SpeedRunning Competition using his DMSP mod, a cool add-on that allows monsters to spawn on deathmatch levels. The results are being decided by two things, speed and the number of cool tricks you can perform during your run. See here for details and don't forget to tell him you heard it on SDA. :-)
I couldn't finish this update without offering our deepest condolences to all victims, families and friends of the hideous terrorist atrocities this week. I also hope that all the scum that plan, commit and support any terrorist action against innocent people for political or religious reasons die slow, horrible deaths. Bastards.

Quality Beyond Belief. - 11:47 PM
After Axel's cool demo from the previous update I thought we might have to wait a while before we saw any improvement to the e1m8 runs. But Martin Selinus had other ideas. He took some time off from stealing cars and setting fire to reindeer to improve the Nightmare Run by 2 seconds to get 0:27. The next day Jozsef Szalontai sent us a one second improvement on that, but he wasn't quite quick enough (how often do you get to say that about Joe?) because Martin had already submitted a 0:26.
Martin says that his run should be beatable and Joszef called his run "a slow piece of sh1t" so I don't think this is over yet!
Marvin also decided that Peter's incredible Easy Run just wasn't quite good enough. So he spent the evening precision-quad-blasting himself around the map until he finally completed one of the best looking demos I have seen. Unfortunately, I'm feeling sadistic and am going to make you wait for it....
....Ready?....
....0:23. Must Download.
Jozsef has also somehow managed to shave another second off of his e4m8 Nightmare Run. Some crazy running and 2 helpful fiends allowed him to exit in 0:44, one second faster than Ilkka's Easy Run!
Dan Stukanev has submitted another one second improvement to his Nightmare run on houstrps. 0:40. This will be very hard to beat without some incredibly lucky cooperation from the Ogres at the gold key.
Amrik Kochhar keeps the improvements for the Easy 100% Beyond Belief Marathon coming. He took 39 seconds off of his old time in a much slicker looking demo which includes the mid air Zombie-Gren jump and a dubious quality rocket boost. 14:45.
And finally, after precisely 2 months and 7 improvements (4 seconds this time) Amrik has got the Easy Run Marathon down to 3:00. Very few flaws and excellent running throughout make this a Must Download.
Another record! Morfans did the Sunday run of SDA_update in a time of 1:59, 3 seconds faster than his previous record. Must Upload. (Thanks for that one, Amrik). :-)

E1M8 normal gravity tables fixed. - 12:38 AM
Thursday, September 6th (2nd Update) by Morfans
Work? I'd rather be updating. - 4:55 PM
True to his word, Amrik Kochhar has begun his weekly improvement of the Easy 100% Marathon on Beyond Belief. This week he managed to beat his previous time by 64 seconds to get 15:24. He continues to have problems with the cool zombie-grenade-jump-yellow-armour-secret trick but I'm sure he'll get it one day.
Next, Dan Stukanev continues to own the runs on houstrps. Stuker improved his Nightmare Run by one second to get 0:41, and Justin's Easy Run by the same amount for a 0:34.
The whole rest of this update concerns ID records. Thomas Stubgaard has once again found some time to improve some 100% demos from the original Quake levels. I guess he must have found some fool to help with the updates.
With the gradual errosion of Optic's runs over the last few weeks I was shocked to see that he only has 355 current records left on SDA! At this rate he will have none at all by the middle of 2007! Maybe this desperate news will prompt him to stop stabbing the cat and get back to business. ;-)
This brings us to the Run Of The Whenever. It was another storming success with the devil himself, Peter Horvath, taking the Easy Hundred and the ever impressive Daniel Lindberg taking the Nightmare 100%. Add this to Peter's victory in last December's RotW and we have a new map and set of runs to add to the tables.
Ziggurat Gravito - e1m8 with normal gravity.
That's it for now. Keep those demos coming in, send us in a profile if you haven't done so already *COUGH*Daniel*COUGH*, and stay tuned for the next contest, which will be coming.....

*meep* *meep*. It's the Rogue Runner. - 10:07 AM
On to the other demos.
To finish off we have four marathon runs. Well, three marathons and a project.
Before I go I'd just like to remind you that the closing date for the current Run Of the Whenever is this Wednesday (5th September). I know Stubby said two weeks but apparently in Denmark Saturday 18th August + 14 days = Wednesday 5th September. Crazy Dane. ;-)

Toxic War and SpeedCon Demos - 3:31 AM
The first demo we have for you is a very nice ID record by Amrik "The Trinidad Tornado" Kochhar. He improved Thomas Bergendorff's Nightmare 100% of e1m4 yesterday evening, and then kept on improving it last night and throughout today, finally settling on 2:26, an 11 second improvement.
The last couple of days have seen a real battle for the Easy 100% of czgtoxic.
Alex also managed to take two seconds off of his rpgsp1 Easy 100% with some nice route tweaks. 2:18.
Next, Dan Stukanev improved his nightmare run on ih1m4 by 4 seconds to get 0:39. Dan must really love this map as he is always "Russian" around on it. :-) (*Groan*. I can't believe I just wrote that).
Jonny was not prepared to let Amrik and Jozsef hog all the glory on czg_moon. He improved Jozsef's run by one second to get 0:33 by not doing the fiend boost and instead just bunnying around the outside to the silver key.
Now we move on to the much anticipated SpeedCon2001 demos. The speedy lads at this year's speedrunning event did some amazingly speedy demos which we've added to SDA's tables:
First up we have an ID record from the bunny pioneer himself. Let's have a big cheer for Mr Ilkka Kurkela. Ilkka is back with style as he improved his Easy Run of e4m8 by 1 second to get 0:45.
Then the chaps embarked on a coop frenzy which saw them p155 all over a lot of MP-Crew records. :-)
Will the Swedes fight back? Only time will tell.
So there you have it Ladies and Gentlemen. The end of another update. Now I'm going to bed because I'm so tired that I'm crying tears of blood, and although it makes quite a pretty pattern on the carpet I'm not convinced that it's good for my overall health.
UPDATE 10:52 AM
Seems like Morfy forgot to post the custom demos from SpeedCon....look above for the most likely reason why he forgot :)

CZG lunacy continues - 9:29 AM
Did you enjoy those? Well just you wait until you see what people have done on czg_moon.
Next we have the pleasure of three very good demos from my favourite player, Mads-Peter Stubgaard. He managed to improve three, yes three of his old demos.
The final set of demos for this update comes courtesy of my favourite coop duo, Jozsef and Amrik, who took time out from fighting over the CZG levels to do the Nightmare Run of gibplex in 0:25. (0:27) Same route as the Easy Run Joszef did with Jonny last week except this time Amrik got to be his biatch.
That's all from me for now. I'm off to work. Don't forget to get your RotW entries in as the deadline is approaching fast. You can even name them correctly now that Thomas has FINALLY given you the format. ;-P

Jonny helps Jozsef lose his virginity - 1:50 AM
On with the update...
Amrik Kochhar never ceases to amaze himself with his Beyond Belief demos. :-)
In case you were wondering about the title of this update, I was refering to Jozsef's coop demo virginity. He teamed up with Jonny to do his first ever 2 player run. They did the easy run of the gibplex in 0:24. (0:26) This is an awesome demonstration of what coop play is all about. Jonny stands there and does nothing except kill a couple of zombies to pass the time while Jozsef exploits the fact he has teamplay 1 and grenades himself all over the map.
Next up we have a real treat from veteran runner Will Marsh. He's done a very impressive Marathon Nightmare Run through the whole of Quake in 23:53, totally destroying Justin's run by 152 seconds. This is a real heart stopper. As he got further and further through I found myself thinking "Surely he's not going to try and..." but he kept on doing very cool tricks all the way through. The whole effect was only slightly spoilt when he screwed up the easy gren jump on E1M4. :-P
Finally, just because nobody else could be bothered to do it I've done a table filler for the Nightmare 100% on rpgsp1. I did it in the chicken-chokingly fast time of 6:35.
Monday, August 27th by Stubby
Wow, finally they got their fingers out their ass and added those two maps! - 12:26 AM
Friday, August 24th (3rd update) by Morfans
*YAWN* - 11:07 AM
First up we have three very good demos from Daniel Lindberg. Daniel seems to be on a roll at the moment, and he's decided to improve all the records made by.... Daniel Lindberg.
Secondly, Basil de Vries has improved his previous appalling Nightmare 100% of coagula3 by 45 seconds to get 3:40. He used the cool trick he found to get to the top level and this time cleared up in a much more organised manner. Okay Basil, in your best Isaac Hayes voice... "Ohhhhhh who's the weapon, that's a death machine with all the monsters?...."
Amrik Kochhar continues his assault on the Beyond Belief records. This time he has improved Robert's Nightmare Run of bbelief3 by one second to get 0:55.
Last but definitely not least, Aleksander Osipov has bitch-slapped DanielH's Easy 100% of rpgsp1. He managed to shave 16 seconds off it to get a time of 2:20. In his .txt Alex calls the map "Penis Demonstration", which I'm guessing is some kind of Finnish civil protest. :-)
That's all for now. But before I go I'd like to thank Stubby for his introduction below, and Nolan for giving me the chance to do these updates. I will almost certainly let you down, but I will be incredibly sorry when I do!
Friday, August 24th (2nd update) by Morfans
Heeeeeeerrrreee's Morfy! - 2:11 AM
So it's with no small sense of annoyance that the first demo I've got to post is perhaps the best demo I have ever seen. Daniel Lindberg has done the Easy 100% of e2m4 in 1:21, 14 seconds faster than Carl's demo. A very pure piece of speed running indeed.
Stay tuned for all the remaining demos and also two new very cool maps. :-)

On another note, I was the lucky one who visited SDA as #250.000, but irony has it that, just when I was about to take a screenshot my computer crashed big time!! Ok, I'll admit that I hit the reload button a 'few' times, but I'm pretty convinced others did that too, right? :)

A note about Quake exe files - 6:00 AM
I wanted to make a quake exe for windows/linux/mac for speedrunning that I would force people to use, but I never had the time or the will to actually do it. If somebody wants to volunteer to do something like that (with my supervision) then please do! :-) Until then I just have to emphasize that I dont want people using modified exe files!
Feel free to bitch at me about this, but it won't change my view. Having a site where players compete for records requires rules, and somebody has to do the best he can to enforce them.

Now frankly I could do the Easy Run in less than five minutes, blindfolded and only using my dick. It's a shame that Justin's original demo is now lost to posterity :)

Daniel Andersson did a Nightmare run of CZG01 in 1:58, 12 seconds faster than Basil's time.
Cooperative Demos:
Daniel Hansson, Carl Tholin and Sara Hansson did the Nightmare 100% of COAGULA2 in 1:15, this demo goes down in history as the first Quake speed run to ever be done by a woman!
Daniel Hansson, Jonny Anderson and Ludvig Sjöstrand did the Easy 100% of COAGULA2 in 0:54, perfect level for mad coops.
Robert Axelsson and Rebecca Axelsson (all Axelsson kids start with an 'R') did the Easy 100% of JZB1 in 0:14.
Robert Axelsson and Rebecca Axelsson also did the Nightmare 100% of JZB1 in 0:27.
Robert Axelsson and Rickard Axelsson did the Nightmare run of JZB1 in 0:11, nice run.
Robert and Rickard also did the Nightmare 100% of JZB3 in 0:20, also very nice.
Nolan Pflug and Thomas Stubgaard filled in the Nightmare 100% of E1M4 in 2:05, Thomas was owned.
Nolan Pflug and myself have improved the Easy run of ZER1M1 by 8 seconds to get 0:32.
Daniel Hansson and Jonny Andersson improved their old Easy run of NETWORLD by 9 seconds to get 1:00.

Single Player Demos:
Robert Axelsson went nutz0rs in this update.
Hannu Kankaanpää improved Justin's Easy 100% of A3 by 9 seconds to get 2:59. Justin is probably too scared to fight back.
Valeriy Burmistrov 'The mad Russian' improved his own Easy 100% of JZB3 by 1 second to get 0:15. This run is getting damn close to optimum I would say.
Nolan 'Mad H4ck3r' Pflug improved Ilkka's Nightmare 100% of ZER1M3 by 88 seconds to get 4:47. Yet another great download from the man who brought us speed running.
Martin Selinus continues his bashing on Markus by improving his Nightmare run of Episode 4 by 8 seconds to get 3:31. Fight back Markus!
Marlo Galinski has finally decided he can't live without Quake so he dusted off his keyboard and did an Easy 100% of Episode 2! He improved his own time 23 seconds to get 12:36.
Finally, I have improved Marlo's Easy 100% of ZER1M1 by 1 second to get 0:54. I just got a better time an hour ago but I'm trying for even more!

Lots of demos and new maps to run! - 2:13 AM
Attention everyone, both veteran runners and people who've never made demos before. It's time to show off the skills you may or may not have, by making some demos for the maps that I'm adding in this update. What better way to get your name and demo on SDA that to fill a hole in the tables, even if it is some slow time? The times that these maps might take will be long, because they're very big and have lots of monsters. FUN FUN!! :)
Anyway, the maps are the Insomnia pak by CZG; czg07a, czg07b, and czg07c. They were recently released and reviewed on teamshambler's site. Once I played through them, I whipped up the stats patch for them because I knew I wanted them on SDA. You can download the map pak here, but also download this progs.dat and use them instead of the one in the map pak. We've got a few demos already done on these maps:
Now for all the demos that have been sent in recently:
